So we're watching the news, and apparently in California there's a bill under consideration that would require castration of certain breeds of dogs determined to be dangerous.

Our 10 year old, Eli, is watching. "What's cast--? . . . Ohhhhhhhh."

Castration? It's a way to get a Muslim Chinese admiral to explore the whole of the South China Sea and much of the Indian Ocean seaboard.

And, regardless of the fact that he was a Muslim, he has become something of a godlike (or, more accurately, kami-like) figure for the Chinese population in Indonesia--at least to those who still stick to their roots and the religion of the shen.

Gah! And I forgot to mention that admiral was the eunuch Zheng He, originally Ma He from the powerful Muslim family of Ma in the Ming Dynasty court circles.
