iai - Nice class last week with lots of tips. I felt "on," which left me feeling (because the on/off feeling usually alternates days) feeling "off" the next day, when I was pleased to host my Tamiya-ryu friend for a little bit of everything sort of workout ( Read more... )

Love that purple wood. It's really like something out of a fantasy novel. Those weapons just will have to have magical properties, there's just no two ways about it.

Definitely magic. Especially the way they transform from shaggy, splintered planks, to smooth and bright purple buki.

--and you're the agent of that transformation!

Your Tamiya Ryu friend really enjoyed the little-bit-of-everything workout and getting to see the similarities and differences in our two styles :-D
It was such a teaser though. I wanted to observe some of the kata you were doing more closely. There were some beautiful, fluid, circular movements in some of them.
I am also totally intrigued with the naginata and want to learn MORE! Especially beating people about the head and shoulders!

That must have been some kind of judo training for a broken toe to be "well worth it."

I bet you were one tired, sore, but happy martial artist by the end of the weekend.

I also think you have a potential career ahead of you making weapons. Everyone who has seen the beautiful tanto you gave me has to hold it and run their fingers along its curves and lines.

It is a pretty special power you have there turning raw wood into something people are compelled to touch, stroke, and use.

Bad LJ is not sending me my comment notifications.

Yes, that was tremendous fun. I only wish we had more space and time. Funny, while we were doing budo movie night at the ranch, I recognized a Tamiya-ryu exponent by one of the kata he did.

Thanks re: the weapons. It's nice to know it's not just me who is fascinated with them!
