"gear up"

I was planning on bringing Shannon to the US Naginata Federation seminar on Friday, but the way she's not been practicing and has generally been a whining brat about it, I don't think I want to bother spending $50 on her attendance. Maybe I'll just do it myself ( Read more... )

Aw, I'm disappointed. A light saber would have been the perfect finishing touch.

Well, I'm sure if a lightsaber worked in the context of our techniques, it would be approved. However, he's The Boss, and I can only assume that lightsabers have some fatal shortcoming that I cannot at this time see due to my inexperience.

One thing in particular, lightsabers are no good for tsuka-ate, as they have a mass of just about 350g. (trufax. for comparison, my favorite shinken is about 860g).

Not to mention the lack of any useable mune. Though I have to mention, my favorite open-carry-legal auxiliary weapon is a 47" box level. It handles like a bokken, it's evenly balanced (like a jo), has much more mass than even the heaviest baton, and comes in use for any contruction projects you may encounter.

The convenience of interchangeable cases has not been lost on me, and you'll typically finding either of my "noogie-sticks" in a bag embroidered "Empire".

Ah, motivation. Sometimes you feel like a nut. Sometimes you don't.

Soete with a lightsaber? Instant loss of half your hand....

(Not to mention that it'll likely just cut through the tsuka rather than being drawn smoothly out of it.)

Well, you're just off on the wrong tangent entirely. There's no soete technique in lightsaberjutsu, because there's no particular need to stabilize the trajectory of the "kissaki." Also, as the lightsaber is self-holstering, there's no need for a saya.

Maybe it's just that you haven't advanced far enough to be able to use it safely.

poppycock! I'll not have you talking like that about my skills!

It wasn't your skills, which I'm sure are of the highest order. Just your experience.

Well, that's a reasonable mistake to make, as I haven't discussed my lightsaberjutsu at all in this venue. Suffice it to say, my experience is substantial.

You know, I should have suspected that.

Beg pardon, master...
