It's been forever since I've been to a cookout or barbeque, but I will be going to one with the dojo family in a couple of weeks. I need to bring something, but it's not like I have a favorite thing to bring to all barbeques!
What you do like to eat at a barbeque?

kind, ice cream, Pepsi soda. I go for generic neapolitian, unless Häagen-Dazs is under $2.50/14oz, then I grab that.
If I have electrical access for a blender, I'll make unauthorized renditions of Strawberry Banana Vivanno™ with bananas, strawberries, ice, sugar (subst. for Valencia classic syrup), milk and optionally a scoop of whey protein powder that you can get in those big white jars. 1 Banana, 1.5 cups whole strawberries, 1 cup ice, 1 cup milk. Whole Paycheck Foods and Vitamin 'Hood cottage should have these in case you want to start using it; I've only tried EAS and some other brands, but the cheap ones should work fine.
Alternatively, you can check the back of 12oz (350g) Whoppers-brand candy packages or online for the Frosted Whoppers Milkshake recipe. Will need candy, ice cream, milk n' blender. Lucerne french vanilla ice cream from Safeway works well for this, note that this is different from the regular vanilla package. You will end up with some waxy chocolate on the bottom of the blender, a sifter will keep this out and compress some of the foam when pouring.
Got a bin of malt? Can find one? Works just as well or better. Malt + french vanilla ice cream + milk + Ghirardelli baking choc. powder = malted chocolate milkshakes.
For best appearance, serve summer beverages in a clear glass or crystal clear plastic cups with colorful straws. Optionally top with whipped cream for dairy-based beverages.
omg, this is what happens when I talk about food. I will repost this in my journal.

Alas, I'll be imposing upon both my sensei (hosts for the overnight) and the actual party host (whom I've never met), so I think anything that messy, melty, and involved will have to wait for another time.
Yum, though. That's given me some ideas for home. The Mr. used to homebrew, so we know where to get malt.
