iai - decent class last night, in that we had some time to just work on things. I need to rebuild my chuden stuff, so I worked on yokogumo and ukigumo. D ceded to B's advice on it as he admitted B was much more technical, and I remarked how he'd shown me the bunkai and got right up in my face and how awesome it was. I'll need to do the roadtrip again next month so I hope to have some improvement to show B by then.

judo - I didn't stay for the adult class on Tuesday. Almost no one showed up, and there was no one I would want to work with, so I just let the guys have the class to themselves. *sigh* I need to head up tonight, if only to get something figured out about making a video for the prior learning narrative.

So many things that have happened in the past year make me question why I keep going.

naginata - Ah, naginata . . . you'll never abandon me.

I'm going to go insane in the next three weeks - can't make it back down for training until June 14. Then the week after that is SwordFest in VA, and D started to get excited at the idea of bringing me as equipment mule and videographer, and I had to beg off reminding her that I'm giving up some school time for training, and I certainly can't take off the penultimate weekend of the semester. She agreed, but was disappointed. Then they mentioned the Japanese Festival in St. Louis on Labor Day weekend . . .

OK, back in the little world that is my practice, I've been working on being forward in the new kamae I learned on Sunday. D suggested breaking out bits of the waza and making kihon out of them, as we don't have any kihon per se. This works pretty well, and I've got a proper jodan now (at least, as far as I can tell). It looks like the usual pattern will be: learn something new, suck at it terribly, go home and practice solo for a few weeks and learn the motions, go back to training and figure out how to wait for ukedachi.

I need more belly in my kiai.

work - work. Three-day weekend this past weekend, so it's tolerable. And busy.

family - yep.

school - trudging along in management. Pecking at stuff in PLA.

reading - Management. Old writing I need for portfolio.

writing - Narratives.

Learning Japanese - riiiiiiight . . .
