OK, so I happen to know that the current lesson that the Mormon church is teaching in Relief Society is about living in peace and harmony with those around you. This lesson is more evidence of the church's hypocrisy and how they do not practice what they preach. The lesson quotes the 11th Article of Faith, which states:
"We claim the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may."
The text of the lesson has quotes from Joseph Smith himself. Check out some of the stuff he had to say about living in peace and harmony:
"If I esteem mankind to be in error, shall I bear them down? No. I will lift them up, and in their own way too, if I cannot persuade them my way is better; and I will not seek to compel any man to believe as I do..."
"We ought always to be aware of those prejudices which sometimes so strangely present themselves, and are so congenial to human nature, against our friends, neighbors, and brethren of the world, who choose to differ from us in opinion and in matters of faith. Our religion is between us and our God. Their religion is between them and their God."
"...In my feelings I am always ready to die for the protection of the weak and oppressed in their just rights."
"We will ... cultivate peace and friendship with all, mind our own business, and come off with flying colors, respected, because, in respecting others, we respect ourselves."
Um...does anyone else think we need to highlight that last quote and send it to the leaders of the church? I don't quite understand how the Mormon church can teach something like this, yet encourage it's members to support such hateful things such as Prop 8 in California and Prop 102 in Arizona, along with a handful of other similar political issues. HYPOCRITES! Pisses me off!
