Life and rabbits

I need to write here more often. It's so therapeutic.

My daughter is going through a divorce right now. She and her 2 kids are living with us, which is great because I love having the grandbabies here. Two weeks before Christmas, she decided to buy a rabbit. My grandson is allergic to dogs and cats. She bought 3 rabbits, which the vet swore were all females. On April 6, two of the females had babies. Turns out one was a male. We had 14 live, 1 dead, and 2 stillborn. Since we didn't know we couldn't plan for it and the litters were mixed. The little ones were thin and sickly looking. The vet (different one from before) told us first litters rarely survive. By the end of the second week we only had 2 - 1 black, 1 albino - left. They are officially 4 weeks old and doing well.

They did not tell us that rabbits can get pregnant the same day they give birth. The vet told us last week that one of the females was pregnant again. He didn't think the other one was. We separated the pregnant one and put her in a dog crate. Yesterday, actually 4 weeks since the first litters, the one in the dog crate had 8 babies and the one in outside hutch had 9. We had the male neutered but it was too late. What the hell are we going to do with 16 rabbits? Ugh!
