On cnn.com this week, an article (
http://www.cnn.com/2004/TECH/04/07/emulators/index.html) ran discussing emulators gamers can download to play old school video games from a wide range of systems and arcade versions. I remember using video game emulators in high school and this article seems to be about 5 years behind the time. The article talks mostly about the legal aspects of download the emulators and the "ROMS" (the actual video game file) to play the game, but also states many people illegally download ROMS without the license to do so. I was probably in this category five years ago as I look back on it now. A complete setup of a video game cabinet runs about $1200, but the emulator is free. This is great because when I did play video games using my emulators, I mostly played old school classics from Nintendo such as Super Techmo Bowl, Double Dragon, ExciteBike, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I am glad I do not have these on my computer now as I would spend a lot of time on the computer playing them. Touching on the topic from Thursday's class of video games hurting your social life, I would probably play the games, but at the same time play them enough to entertain me, but not so it would consume my life where I am telling my friends I do not want to go out for the evening after they invite me out to a hot party.
