good ideas

I got the idea to keep track of movies and books I've seen and read this year from Mandi. I'm cheating and counting the things starting from December 1. =) A * means it's a repeat viewing. I guess I'll also aim for reading/seeing at least 50 this year. =) It's a good idea.

Is it possible you read "Harriet the Spy", not "Matilda"? I remeber they were both turned into movies at the same time...

I agree Tekkon Kinkrete was sweet. I went into it thinking it would be all about the ultraviolence, and there WAS that, but the relationship between the kids was so well-handled.

I thought about that, but no. Each book has a distinct cover in my mind's memory, so I read them both. The movie Matilda, however, enacted many of the threats merely described in the book -- like the spikey closet of punishment -- and embellished on the plot -- like stopping carrots in mid-air that her brother threw at her (rather like Neo and his Matrix bullets, now that I think about it). The movie was much more exciting than the book... kinda like the case of Stardust. I think Matilda was older, too. In the book she's barely kindergarten-age.

Tekkon Kinkrete definitely had an impact on me. The part with the Minotaur was a bit weird, but the storyline was amazing.
