I don't really know what to do with myself right now. Here's what happened...
Last night I was hanging out with my friend and co-worker Shaina. She got a call from Missy (the head overnight tech at work) asking her if she could be on-call if the emergency clinic needed anyone. She agreed to it but the reason they asked her was because a co-worker of ours (who shall remain nameless at the moment because I want to respect her privacy) had her house burn down last night...I mean the house is GONE. Missy called Shaina because Sherry (who was working when the fire happened) left to go help see if she could catch some of the animals that had gotten out. Missy and Stephany went too. So it was Dr. Clingenpeel and a new tech Veronica. Since I was there I offered to go too if needed. Well around 11pm we get a call saying they need help for a possible C-Section. Turns out the dog is only a month pregnant. They still needed the hands and help. Anyway we got out of there at 1:30 and drove over to the site where the house burned. It was awful. Hard to see in the dark but basically the frame was there (burned) but the inside was just gone...there wasn't anything there. Now she has a LOT of animals...pigs, monkeys a bunch of dogs and cats. She has two Shar Pei dogs missing. One's a puppy and one's an adult. One dog actually broke through a window and jumped out. All the snakes and everything were saved. The ones that could not be a save were: a litter of puppies. The father of the litter who was in a crate and couldn't get out (they think he burned to death...but smoke inhalation may have gotten him first) A cat that was killed by smoke inhalation and one of her shar pei's that had actually gotten out but he was so scared he ran right opnto 81 and was hit by a car and killed...right in front of the owner of course...So Stephany drove him and the cat up to Eastside so we could put them in the freezer and hold them for her until she can figure out what to do with them. Since she wanted to bury them. Neither of them were home (menaing her or her husband) when the fire started but they believe it was the water heater that caused it. I'm glad that the majority of the animals lived and that no people saw harm to themselves.
I love where I work...we're all a family there and come together for one another...they're such good people too...
Also to mae the night even more fun...a cat that had just got done healing from a fractuer cuz she had been shot in the arm refractured her leg last night...nobody saw it happen but she was in the Dr.'s office and we heard her hiss and she came out limping (non weightbearing) on the leg we had just taken the last of the bones pins out of on Friday...She was still at the hospital because the owners were freaking out about taking her home and confining her....oh dear what fun this is gonna be....I sure am glad I'm not working today! I'm so tired from last night and emotionally sad and sore. Its exhausting...anyway I ask that for those of you who do pray....please pray for my co-worker and her family and pets and if you don't pray...just keep her in your thoughts. Also to everyone...please please please cherish what you have....because when something like that happens and everything is wiped out from under you....well I don't know its just not fair...and it really hits home...so love and cherish what you have...and do it now...so that way when it is gone (if ever...hopefully NOT) you won't wish you cherished it more when you had the chance...that's all thanks for listening.
