Everyhing that is.

Last summer, I was having a thought, and --

F-list: No! Really? C'mon, we've got thoughts like, every day...

Me: Shuddup!

Anyway, 'twas about how the unnatural cannot exist, because it, on account of existing, must be a part of nature.
Therefore, it must also be natural.

Today, I came across the phrase "Everything that is, is right", which reminded me of said entry, because it sorta' summed it up.
Naturally, I wanted to know where the quote came from, so I looked around and found this lil' sum-up: ... (English poet) Alexander Pope, for example in this great line from his Essay on Man : ‘One truth is dear- whatever is, is right.' ... if we believe in a Creator, then he must be a good Creator, and the greatest of all possible creators, and therefore could have created only The Best of All Possible Worlds. In other words: ‘Everything that is, is right.'

Now, that wasn't quite the point I wanted that quote illustrate. But it's still pretty darned interesting. I guess I shall have to add Essay of Man to my reading-list...
As well as Candide.
That sum-up was from an introduction of a 1989-stage performance of Candide, which, by the way, was quite interesting, too. Oh, the hell with it! Let's play the Overture...

Oh, naturally you can get rather creative with quotes.
But having an idea of the context from which they were snatched in the first place is pretty helpful for building yer arguments, methinks. ^_^

When searching the web for thet quote, I also came across this page, which seems to be quite a gem:
Internet Sacred Texts Archive. Looks like a goldmine for people who are too lazy to read the actual texts, but still wants in on the debate (like me).
A lil' excerpt on what's it got to say on Gay Marriage in the Bible:

"Actually this is kind of a trick topic. There is no mention of gay marriage in the Bible ... But neither is there any mention of representative democracy, electricity, the Internet, or polyester clothing.
For the vast majority of Christians and Jews (even those that believe in Biblical inerrancy), just because something isn't mentioned in the Bible doesn't necessarily mean that it is sinful or forbidden.
Unless you are Amish, of course, in which case you probably shouldn't be reading this in the first place...

...

Genesis 2:23-4:

2:23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.

2:24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

Now before you say, 'Aha! so the Bible does forbid gay marriage!', take another look, This passage does not say 'Thou shalt not let two men or two women get married, and get the same tax breaks as heterosexuals.' "

Teehee... It's also got lots of cross-linking goodness.

And now for some lighter stuff: Last friday, I saw the first butterfly for the season. This made me happy.

We've managed to film and batch all of our material, so we'll start editing tomorrow. Yayness!
I love editing. Hopefully, all (five) of us will manage to get along even through editing, but we've done well so far...
And hopefully, I'll still love editing when the movie's done, hehe...
Nah. As long as the computer behaves, no worries. *crosses fingers and toes*

movie, sacred texts archive, philosophy, alexander pope
