the quote i was already familar with. dubya has a similar one saying that witchcraft (wicca/paganism) is not a real religion (though he doesn't attack their citizenship).
I don't think witchcraft is a religion. I would hope the military officials would take a second look at the decision they made." G.W. Bush (R), as Governor of Texas. Interviewed on ABC's Good Morning America, 1999-JUN-24. He disapproved of Wiccan soldiers being given the same religious rights as others in the military. http://www.religioustolerance.org/witchcra.htm
the survey i heard of on an atheist radio talk show (infidel guy)... not that i intensely listen to it, they were covering views of religion on queerness, and it predictably focused on abusive christian attitudes (sigh).
talking to some fellow non-theists they said that similar surveys on years prior revealed disparaging attitudes against atheists...when you consider the commmon mythos such that atheists are always causing a problem and trying to get rid of any public religious observance and so loudly proclaim themselves and hate religion/god etc. it's funny, in people's minds, it's not the 'legitmate' faiths that sue for infringements of their beliefs but atheists (granted suits against pledging allegiance are brought by jehovah's witnesses- Minersville School District v. Gobitis, 1940). oh that and the aclu is out puppet(never mind they have brought suit on occasion on behalf of religions like baptists) http://www.aclu-mass.org/issues/religiousliberty.html http://atheism.about.com/b/a/208021.htm http://www.positiveatheism.org/toccourt.htm
