Yanked from someone on Charloft
1. Which character have you played / written / drawn for the longest?
In fanfiction: Can't really pick for it since I've written for Star Trek, Lexx and Bleach about the same. Farscape was a little less though. Amount wise; because he has two novella length works, Yylfordt Granz. He is such a side character that I was able to use him for my plot without breaking his canon-sona too much.
Original: Gorath (see icon). He's been with me the longest and has a "prototype" image from before his creation where I drew an owl that looked exactly like him in 2003 (in a dream-inspired Lexx fan pic even lol). Though his actual creation and development into the character I know so well is towards the end of 2004, beginning of '05 during my first year in college.
2. Who is your newest character?
Fanfiction: Hi no Tsura; a "zanpakuto spirit" for an AU Yylfordt that is a blue and purple phoenix.
Original Characters: An Asian inspired dragon I have yet to name. I was going to steal the name of my failed Chinese dragon Marikesh but it just doesn't quite suit him.
3. About how long do most of your characters tend to last?
Years. Even the ones I put down I tend to come back to at some point, if only for a random picture.
Though I usually drop my fan characters, be they created by me or created by the artist/studio etc when I stop actively fanboying (though I never actually stop liking/watching/reading the series). I'd still love to go to a Star Trek convention someday (my oldest fandom; since I was 5)!
4. What has been the longest time you've played / written for a character? What helped it last so long?
If you count Gorath; 8 years.
He's a mad scientist. What's not to like about mad scientists with evil plots and a total disregard for the happiness of his victims...err.."specimens"?
5. What keeps you interested in a character's story?
Action. There has to be conflict. I don't do hunky-dory "everything is going to get better" scenarios. They are boring and I generally like playing with dark characters or flat out villains.
6. What makes you likely to drop a character or stop writing for them?
If their story needs to end, it ends.
Artwise I never truly drop a character unless they are solely created for a specific fandom.
7. Have you ever revived a character you used to play / write for? How did it happen? Did you bring them back the same, or in another form?
I technically revive Slipstreme (my current fursona) every time I kill him in snuff art. I killed Gorath once (well he nearly died but stopped the process).
In a Lexx fanfic and a Star Trek Voyager fanfic I had characters who turned themselves into cybernetic machines, so they technically died on the table, and my vampire characters go through the process of dying to become a vampire (as per Katrichk, my vampire gryphon).
Artwise they just come back as if I never killed them in the first place. Storywise there is always an explanation.
8. When you retire a character, do you tend to write them out of story / play, or drop them suddenly?
I just stop using them. If they are story based they are around till it ends.
9. When you have a new character, does that tend to affect how much you write / play with your older ones?
Only if they are in the same universe. EX: Gorath is not involved in Bleach fandom at all, therefore, my arrancar version of Slipstreme has no knowledge of or dealings with Gorath, though Slipstreme and Gorath are interconnected in their own canon (to the point if one dies, the other dies).
10. About how many characters do you currently write for / play? How many can you juggle at a time?
Upwards of 8 or more.
Depends on what is going on but in Star Trek fandom I did write a story with 8 active main characters who were the crew of a small fighter craft; fighting against the Dominion occupation of The Federation.
I typically juggle more stories than I do characters in a story.
