(no subject)

Life without the Internet would seem unfathomable. We rely on it for everything. With websites such as Google.com and Dogpile.com, the Internet allows us to research any subject that interests us. With services such as AIM and Yahoo, we can carry on multiple on-line conversations with friends. With websites such as Myspace.com and Facebook.com, we can stay clued into the lives of virtually anyone (as long as they accept us a friends).
It’s hard to imagine that our beloved Internet may carry a downside.
While the Internet can be entertaining for some, for others it can be overwhelming. With so many teenagers having access to the Internet there are bound to be problems.
Cyber-bullying is when a person is tormented, threatened, harassed, humiliated, embarrassed or otherwise targeted over the Internet. This could include threatening instant messages, rude Myspace comments or, in some extreme cases, websites created to humiliate a peer.
In 2000, the University of New Hampshire conducted a study that found six percent of kids in the United States had been threatened or harassed online. In March of 2006, these statistics had dramatically risen to show that 75 to 80 percent of 12-14 year-olds had been cyber bullied.
