Today's lilies-of the-valley...

...are in honor of gillyp.

Lilies-of-the-Valley are a perennial formed by an extensive network of underground stems called rhizomes. May Lily, May Bells, Ladder-to-Heaven, and in France - 'Muguet' - are common names of the beautiful belled flower. The first perfume I was ever given was Coty's Muguet des Bois.

"White coral bells upon a slender stalk
Lilies of the Valley deck my garden walk
Oh don't you wish that you could hear them ring
That will happen only when the fairies sing."

Despite it's delicate beauty all parts of the Lily-of-the-Valley, including the berries, are poisonous.

The "Lilies-of-the-Valley" Faberge Egg was presented to Empress Alexandra Feodorovna by Emporer Nicholas II for their Easter in 1898.

Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis was buried with a full couch lid spray of lilies-of-the-valley and Princess Grace carried them at her wedding.

In the "language of flowers" the lily-of-the-valley represents the return of happiness.

Happy Birthday, dear friend!
