Vid-Rec: Creep

...I am a crier in films and books...I like watching films I know will make me cry. I’m the type that laughs out loud when reading. My favourite film trailer is that Nine-Inch-Nails/Terminator Salvation one because I think the dramatic use of music with footage is perfection...the whole thing makes me go ‘alakskalskajaksjajsksajsjdsja!!!!!1’.
I hate the X-factor but always watch it for the most blatant uses of that kind of emotional manipulation. Sob-story, dramatic sad piano music, then person singing...then person crying at judges when they like them...more dramatic music of the swelling variety. I don’t know why...but I’m fascinated by that whole audio/visual symbiosis. It’s cheesy and unsubtle and I love it best in its most unsubtle form. I WANT these things all up in my face.
Anyway, that probably makes no sense...but it was what I was going for when I did that Cas vid ages ago. Over dramatised awesome. It was a mixed success, but fed my id like woah.
So I watched a vid a while ago that was going for that same sort of thing and I wanted to rec it.
There’s dramatic voiceovers, meaningful looks on the music swells, lots of Cas looking sad and some really really over-literal scene selection (‘hell’ lyric mirrored with hell imagery). This all sounds like a back-handed compliment. It’s not. I think the vid is really very good at doing what it’s doing. HD DVD quality footage would have been awesome, but maybe it’ll get a remaster? Also, this vid demonstrates how freaking awesome Mark Sheppard’s voice is.
In short - quiet, subtle and touching things are all very polished and lovely, but sometimes if you’re going to hit a cat with a brick you should hit it with a whole building.
