Three little-big-kinda-awesome things
1. Christian Bale has an Oscar. Isn’t that exciting and well deserved? NGL - his acceptance speech made me tear up <--- such a fangirl.
2. Trent Reznor and Atticus Rose also have an Oscar. I am running out of squee!
3. I’ve been caning Radiohead’s new album King of Limbs for the last week. Have you guys heard it yet? Do you like it?
I like it. Obviously. I like it in the same way that I like In Rainbows or Amnesiac; as a whole album. Straight away there are a couple of songs that jump out at me...I am deeply in love with ‘Codex’; that opening piano intro breaks my heart in all the right places and the lyrics make me want to curl up in the bottom of my bath with the hot water running. The way Thom sings it literally stops me breathing; my brain darts off to frolic in horrible pastures when that song comes on -so yes, instant favourite. I also like 'Give up the Ghost' and find myself craving a pebbled beach and a windbreaker. But generally, I like the album in its entirety, played start to finish as something that becomes a background to whatever I’m doing at the time. In a couple of weeks I’ll start to associate it with a particular activity or mood or smell and then that is what that album will be reserved for - if I’m not careful it’ll be messy greyscale sketches of Jimmy Novak with geometrically lined over-lays (seeing as these silly half-abandoned paintings keep clogging up my hard drive) and probably the vague odour of prawn mayonnaise from the sandwich I keep forgetting to eat.
I send out a big thank you to the universe for giving me these three things - this week has been utterly awful (so much RL fail, I can’t. even.)
