[drama] MAOU + LIAR GAME

Feb 05, 2009 12:16

first,
MAOU

WOOOOOOOOOOOW it's so good i woke up early to watch it after i went running in the morning yesterday, then went out to play badminton and for dinner can came back watched it all the way till 3am.

i dont get why it got the ratings it had. it definitely deserved better. if not the plot(since it's a remake of the korean one), then for the acting which was impressive, both leads and the supporting. surprising in a way i think, and very good. it's like...when you like toma and ohno, i thought it'll be hard to focus on the characters but because they did a good job, what i saw was naoto and naruse, not toma and ohno. and i liked the pace and everything. and for every drama that can evoke tears and sympathy for the characters, this definitely counts for something and maou is up there. it's good.

i cried so much, oh no, i bawled so hard for the show. (ah embarrassing-.-)

ah toma's serizawa naoto.
initally i thought he was just a brash cop with dark past (you know.those typical role on tv). but as the show went on, you see his growth. from regret over his past sins he went on to face his mistake and found the courage to stop what had been fuelled by his mistake. i dont understand why some said toma's acting was over-the-top, cuz in fact i found it fine. i mean, caught in a situation like that, the burdens, the sin and suffering, yet still having to find the strength to stop the criminal, anyone should have been that angry, that exasperated. it was a credible performance.
not to mention he looks so good xD
(dont mind me LOL but when he was wearing the white shirt instead of that brown one, he looked so good and a lot of time the camera zoomed in on the face, just cant help noticing-.-)
it was heartbreaking to see what the character went through, i was like , "ARGH ENOUGH PLEASE STOP".

ohno's naruse ryo. shall address him as naruse anyway.
the character with the most depth, it was a meaty role. initially offered to the viewers as pure evil, then you see the past that led to his perspective of the world, the dilemma, then realising he still had dreams again, and realising it's too late. it was like stringing the viewers into his perspective and his turmoil. VERY VERY HEARTBREAKING. you could see how it was too late to stop, with so many people dead, and he couldnt see how he could live on without wanting to die for his sins anymore. he was waiting for the people to stop him, to catch him, and to kill him. because he couldnt live anymore. maybe it's just me but, i thought it was so painful to watch. i cried buckets for the character. no wait, i cried buckets for a lot of the characters i think-.-
i remember him saying,"ah thanks for everything. i havent enjoyed myself so much since...." and the face. ah~

and ya dear ohno's acting was good. i mean, can you even tell it's the same person XD

yamano...something. i put him next because  I HATED THE CHARACTER SO MUCH.he was just a coward hiding behind the lame excuse of revenging for hideo when in fact, he was just trying to carry out his own revenge for his bullying.  and he had no right to do so. i mean, who's the coward who didnt even stand up for his friend and did not even testify for his friend, who all along was protecting him and died partly because of him. he  could have spoken up, helped in testifying, but he didnt. ya i know, the emotional scarrings from the bullying, the trauma, they are reasons for his behaviour but exacting revenge for himself was just damn disgusting.

and i was positively furious when he stabbed kasai D:< i was so waiting for him to die so that i can applaud. but sadly, no.

mari-san and kasai, they are like the romeo and juliet in the show. (that lady has been in every show i watch recently- liargame, taiyo to umi, bloodymonday and now-.-) initially i didnt understand why they had to bring this in then it just....flowed and garh, THIS WAS THE PART OF THE ENDING THAT I HATED. cuz the stupid yamano had to destroy whatever future they could have had by killing kasai. and what, he had no courage to stab him from the front showing his face that he had to stab him from the back. WHAT AN IDIOT. i felt so indignant, cuz for once, naruse believed in a future and wanted to grant them one, to at least right some of his wrongs but GARH.

shiori and naruse makiko (or rather, nee-san haha)
ah, the two kind souls who made naruse felt like there was hope for the living in the world. kobayashi looks cute and suits ohno. they have round faces haaha LOL. anyway i liked her character...until at the later part of the series when she started crying more often-.- the character was angelic, and had spine, and of course superpowers which made her way less boring then if she hadnt.

and the sis. sigh that was hearbreaking, having her accept the fake ryo as the real ryo because it shows how lonely she was initially. how glad she was to have someone visit her and willing to accept someone who has shown her kindness so willingly as a substitute of her brother. the part where she went,"Goodbye, Ryo" when the truth was out was just....sigh. cuz this time round she's really alone and thee will never be flowers or stories to accompany her again.

and my favourite part of the show involving naruse and shiori was actually the birthday celebration for naruse. it was so painful to see him struggle to be happy. where his colleagues passed him presents and threw confetti, and the sora-chan who also suffered because of him giving him the drawing. you could see the struggle and his guilt of not deserving to be happy. and learning that he could feel joy.

ah, and serizawa family, the aniki and the dad.
the brother was really the innocent party, and you could see his suicide after being driven to a corner was really what made naruse break. sure, he was selfish, killing souda and putting the blame on kasai. but i guess what he did was just trying to become something like his dad. he wasnt as strong as naoto, just like he had said, and that was why he chose the suicide route. and till the end, he was still afraid of bringing trouble to the dad, sigh....the family was not as apart as they had thought

and i actually loved the dad's character. initially they portrayed the father as a one-dimensional selfish guy who'd do anything to ensure that his family is alright so i didnt really bother but later on when the dad realised who naruse really was i loved his courage in admitting what he'd done, that "that was the only thing a father can do for his son".
it was kinda sudden, the exposure of the character, but it was nice to see that he wasnt just that uncaring workaholic he seemed to be. where naruse confronted him, when the dad said,"you were just like me back then, seeing the crooked line as the straight one." GOSH, seriously heartbreaking. and as if he wanted to bring him back onto the straight path. and where naruse asked,"so you believe him (naoto)?" and he replied,"of course i do, how can i not trust my own son".   and when the aniki died, to see the father break down was just....and staring at the photos alone. the heart attack was kinda expected but ARGH jap dramas indeed. they HAD to make him die after making you understand and emphatize with the character D: they HAD to do that and make your heart ache-.-

sigh the colleagues. the only few still alive hahaha. the head he...was nice haha.i loved his,"Do i need evidence to trust my detectives?" wa so nice and going,"The countryside's good" when he was threatedned to be fired if naoto was not taken off the case. and the lady detective...had something for naoto right?haha and the end when naoto seemed to already give up and went to confront naruse you could see her kneeling on the ground.

ah well, maou is SO good, but so depressing at the same time T_______T
.
and next, liar game:D

it's good too!! ahaha i liked the pace too. though i always skip the recap segments and the beginning of each episode. it was repetitive-.-

uh huh, toda's kanzaki nao. i didnt like the character because....AYE i doubt anyone can like the character ah. i'm sorry, but she's really dumb. too naive and gullible and too much tears. really gets on my nerves at times.in the show they referred to her as pure and average people would find her stupid..i guess that was very true. didnt like toda's acting here though :S she was much better in code blue. and even ryusei. it was like...not much acting going on, a lot of innocent wide eyed look and such.

uh huh matsuda shota as akiyama shinichi. in the earlier parts not much acting required hahahah just a lot of coolness. he was cool though:D :D and he smirks very well....even better than ohno's smirk as naruse LOL. the later part at the final game of this show i thought he was...so much like L (as in deathnote) tell me you agree-.-
i kept having the L image in my head while watching. i love it when he acted like he lost control and was crazy mad. it was so much better than him being cool because....he looked like he was just strolling by and strolled past the set of liar game LOL!

see, she was in as well haha-.-same kind of role as taiyo to umi and bloody monday-.-

ah i sound like i dont like the acting-.- that's not the case the acting was just normal but the plot, pace and twists were good and made it a very very enjoyable show. no idea why ratings were so...but it's good i enjoyed it a lot:D the 3 hour final ep, i like how they introduced different perspectives to other supporting characters, to know how they got into the game and the various reasons behind the things that happened. though i skipped those recaps again. hahaha of course, since i watch it in like 3 days, why do i need recaps-.-

and of course, nao x akiyama :D separately they are really just...that. but together they make a really cute pair :D and they inject humour at the weirdest times haha!

nao: with my perfect acting, i dont get how they could tell!
(everyone silent and stares)
mushroom: you mean with your perfectly awful acting?
LOL!

and the supporting cast like random leopard shirt guy and the little mushroom AND mushroom. pretty funny at times.

i think the only thing i dont like as much about liar game is the ending. why do the evil, cynical people get enlightened so easily by nao. i found it hard to believe, that's all-.-

but ya, these shows are goooooooooood :D

weird that i enjoyed ryusei so much but havent done a post on it. i guess cuz a lot of ppl watched ryusei so there's no need too? hmm maybe just do one when i've time.
having some interview later on so...that's it!
