Living on, but wanting to quit my job.

Thesis proposal approved...well, needs a bit of cleaning up, but it's been rubber stamped. Welcome to the next year!

Long hours and heavy drinking lately. Really its just been to avoid work and with a full week next week I might have fucked myself. But I got an A on my 25 page research paper in the Kafka class and I am just living high with that off my chest. So the stressful semester of mediocrity has devolved into various binges, of which I cannot complain too much.

This summer will be good. Friends around. Hopefully freedom to pick up and go from time to time. I just planted a little garden to continue what I started last year. Of course, I'm considering that my pots for the two tomato plants might be too small...that might require a transfer later on. Growing tomatoes, two kinds of pepper, an collection of herbs, and some vine-ing flowers (morning glory). Nice little hobby and my favorite moments last summer were sitting out on the back porch with hours to kill, breakfast and no shirt on, reading a book and poking around with my plants.

I haven't posted in forever. I don't particularly care to. If it didn't give me a mindless distraction from time to time, I think it would be time to resign this place. I had a short burst that didn't last of posting b/c of England but that's faded.

Anyway. My cd disc drive in the laptop broke right as I was going to burn your cd, Sam. You'll have to wait. But I have a whole ton of stuff you need. And with my new car stereo I've been able to listen to that wonderful collection of albums you sent me. Haven't found anything I don't love yet, except perhaps Joanna Newsom but the jury is still out there. Patience, chum: your weeks overdue package will come.

I'm out of things to talk about. Almost. Spiderman three was schlocky,  absolute blockbuster trash. The special effects did not wow me as I hoped, Venom showed up too late. James Franco and his jolly old family butler made me laugh the entire time when I shouldn't have. The movie lost me when Toby Mcguire showed up on screen wearing black eye liner. It was dumb. I hope they were embarrassed with their product, regardless of how much money its made. The worst part was how Peter Parker managed to first treat like shit over and over and finally hits MJ, but then all he has to do at the end is hold out his hand. Was it supposed to be touching, like that solved everything? No...now it just seems like Kirsten dunst is ok with it: spiderman hits because he loves. Overall I needed to see it and I didn't have the urge to leave the movie, but it was just so...well schlocky is the word that keeps coming to mind.

Ok. Seamus Heaney will see me off:

Good-night

A latch lifting, an edged den of light
Opens across the yard. Out of the low door
They stoop into the honeyed corridor,
Then walk straight through the wall of the dark.

A puddle, cobble-stones, jambs and doorstep
Are set steady in a block of brightness.
Till she strides in again beyond her shadows
And cancels everything behind her.
