The hoop is life. It's ten feet high. Most people can't even touch it. The few who can can't hang on. It is there when you come into the gym, it will be there when you leave. The hoop does not move. Your entire purpose of being in the gym is to master the hoop. You will stand back nineteen feet, nine inches, and chuck rocks at a hole in the sky. Most of the time, you will fail--even if there is no one else around. You continue anyway. Occasionally, you try to ignore the hoop. You dribble, you pump fake, you work on fast breaks and catching had passes. This is in vain. You always come back to the hoop. The hoop is indifferent. The hoop is cold. The hoop does not care. But you do.
