Sure, it was 80 degrees all weekend. But it is fall. I have wasted no time in getting down to fall-like things.
I have appreciated the
super harvest moon I have worn a fall trench coat.
I have eaten a pumpkin whoopie pie.
I have gone on a road trip to appreciate foliage. And it was already pretty damn gorgeous.
The best thing about fall is the food. (More pumpkin-flavored things, please.) Food is also the best way to celebrate a friend's birthday. We did both in the Berkshires. And oh, it was delicious! Food I ate this weekend included:
*Friendy's. Sure, it's not a traditional fall food, but a treat nonetheless.
*Strawberry frozen yogurt from GoBerry (a farewell to summer)
*Chocolate fountain! (And other chocolate samples from a gourmet store's anniversary party that we stumbled into.)
*Homemade guacamole.
*PB&J cups. (The PB was blended with cream cheese!)
*Lebanese hummus, lentils, and stuffed grape leaves.
*Fennel-crusted pork tenderloin with Israeli couscous
*Cranberry-apple pie
*Side-of-the-road cider doughnuts.
If it seems like it's more food than can fit into one weekend, it totally was. But I ate it all anyway. To me, that's the mark of a good birthday celebration!
The only thing I have not done so far this season is buy the requisite pumpkin/gourd combo. Last year, I did it too early and my mini-pumpkin turned black and became liquid. It's made me gunshy. Obviously, others are not so worried.
