We're two LJers and not two clearly insane people.

Yikes, I've been busy. Evidence: I haven't found time to blather on in this journal since last Sunday. (Lucky you guys.) I've just had three or four rotating projects that have been alternating sucking up all of my time. If I'm lucky, I should be finishing up the last of them this week, so I can return to being a normal person.

I did find a little bit of time just to chill this weekend. On Saturday, Jesse and I decided to check out the East River State Park in Williamsburg. It's basically the McCarren Park Annex, with wall-to-wall sunbathing hipsters. I actually wish I could combine the two parks. McCarren Park-despite being unfairly named a "blight" in Time Out New York-is a much nicer park, with more trees and space to spread out. (It's closer to my apartment, too.) The East River State Park has no shade and a little bit of a goose problem, but it's right on the East River and has an amazing view similar to the one I fell in love with on Governor's Island. I guess it's nice to have two different parks in walking distance for variety.

Sunburning myself at the East River State Park was an oasis of calm in a weekend of busy, though. After we returned from the park, we undid all the relaxing by trekking to the mostly lame Nokia Theater in Times Square. At least we had a good excuse: the Kids in the Hall live performance! I'm not used to seeing comedy shows that aren't UCB improv. I didn't really know what to expect from a Kids comedy concert (besides nerds in the audience). The show was what basically amounted to an episode performed live, with little pre-filmed bumpers in-between sketches. There were hits and misses-but there was a sketch with Gavin, and that justified the ticket price alone. There were other good bits, too, and I hope they find a home somewhere other than the tour so I can talk about them with people who didn't go. Also, the headcrusher put in an appearance as an "encore," so I walked out very happy.

We had to go to the earlier of two Kids in the Hall performances because I had to get up early today for my cousin's baby shower. I found out my family is intensely competitive when it comes to shower games. If you don't know what I mean by "shower games," I envy you. I love my family, but, if it weren't for the chance to hang out with my relations, showers would be unendurably tedious. I actually wish I could've spent more time talking with my pregnant cousin instead of watching her open present after present-but that's the way these things go, I guess. Anyway, these shower games were invented to keep the endless present-opening interesting. The many games and the rules aren't worth explaining, but one involved trying to collect necklaces with plastic pacifiers by stealing them away from other guests, and I actually heard my mom say, "We have to figure out how to get them away from that woman with the oxygen tank." Yeah, don't mess with my family. We're ruthless.

On deck for next weekend: I'm off to Saratoga again. Hopefully this will mean more park-style relaxing and less shower-saturated over-programming. Then again, Baby Mama comes out, so I probably will spend at least part of the weekend thinking about pregnant women.
