There is a girl in New York City.

I blew town this weekend and went to Saratoga. Usually, we go visit Jesse's family in for Christmas, and then we don't go again until the spring. Now I understand why. I don't do well in the cold and I panic about driving in less than an inch of snow.

I seem to have brought the upstate weather back with me, since now there's a severe weather warning warning in Brooklyn. Arctic air masses! Wind gusts up to 50 m.p.h.! Wind chill factors below zero! It's The Day After Tomorrow, only without the wolves and the frost that can chase people around corners. It's the type of night where I want to just cozy up to our fireplace. Too bad it's fake.

Anyway, despite my incompatibility with the weather, Saratoga was good times, as always. Lessons learned:

• I need to learn how to use a Cuisinart. Jesse's mom got one for me for my birthday. It's the first time in my life that I've ever had one, so I really have to start from scratch. If anyone has good recipes that need a Cuisinart, send them my way.
• If I'm going to stay out until 4 am, spending that time talking and listening repeatedly to Paul Simon's Graceland on vinyl is way better than some of the other activities that keep people out that late.
• There Will Be Blood doesn't get any easier to watch the second time around, but it's still awesome.
• It's not just me. Nobody has enough money to do some of the things they want to do. Fake rebates from the government won't help. Mega Millions is hard to win.
• I need to take more photos. The roll of film that's in my camera has been in there since New Year's Eve.
• Saratoga knows its way around a mashed potato, as evidenced in the restaurant that Jesse's dad took us to. Then again, all food that I neither have to purchase nor prepare makes me very happy.
• Seeing Zoe Bell in Death Proof again makes me very excited for her upcoming stint on Lost.
• Arctic cold won't keep me from ice cream. I learn this lesson practically every night.

While I've been coming to all of these realizations, my mom is laying out on an island somewhere. I bet the lesson's she's learning are way more interesting than mine. Or at least warmer.
