I was a child in a single parent home, in a family with no health insurance. I remember the agonizing decisions about whether or not to tell my mom I was sick, because that meant making a decision about paying for a doctor's visit out of pocket. Little kids shouldn't have to figure out if pretending to not be sick is a good call, if over the counter meds will work, or other strange deceptions and lies related to their health. And now, for many more kids than prior, this may not be an issue.
Honestly, I'm pessimistic enough that I didn't really think I'd see any kind of substantial health care reform. Is this bill everything I would like or could dream of? No. But it's a start. A good start. A long overdue start. And maybe, just maybe, a step forward. Yes we can. One step at a time.
