So, I posted my Valentine's Day AkuRoku AMV ("Axel and Roxas' Bleeding Love") yesterday, and when I came back to Youtube afterward, I saw it had NO description DX
When I tried to put it back in, Youtube said it was too long >.<
So, I decided to post what I was going to say about the video here and put the link in the description of the video on Youtube! :D
It's mostly story analysis and such, and I probably DID ramble a bit too much, but here ya go:
Ok, story and clip meaning and such:
First off, you have to understand the song. I once heard this guy on an ad on the Logo channel (the channel for the gays, but which is perfectly enjoyable for the straights, yey) talking about this and other songs of the past year, and about this song, he said that he still “didn’t get it.” (I love the gays, I do, but unfortunately, being gay doesn’t make you smart -_-’) This song is NOT hard to understand. It just requires some understanding of metaphor.
In the song itself, she (or he? The guy who voiced Roxas wrote the song, lol XD) has become extremely cautious and guarded about relationships, because she’s been hurt in the past when she opened herself up completely, so out of fear and distrust, she put a guard up; she didn’t want to hurt anymore. But this one person, this one person completely different from the rest, managed to break through her guard, and now she’s completely open to love again, able to love this person fully, like she used to. Thus, “bleeding love;” she closed off herself, her heart, to love, and this one guy was able to cut down that barrier. She feels vulnerable, like she’ll never be the same, and her friends, having been through it all with her, are naturally concerned about that. But in truth, she feels better than she ever has in her life.
Now, on to how that would apply to Axel and Roxas and this video… ;D
Axel, being a Nobody, isn’t SUPPOSED to feel much if anything, much less feelings strong enough to be described as “love.” So the barrier is even larger, even harder to break through than it would be in the average human being. Having that fact metaphorically beaten into him every day for probably more than a year, naturally he felt hopeless about the prospect. Axel, for reasons we do not know of yet, missed having his heart probably more than anyone else. (See the translated version of the KH2: Final Mix scene “The Conclusion” for proof of this.) Saix MAY have missed it more, but he decided to trust Xemnas and his plan fully, while Axel did everything he could, including disobeying the Organization.
He attempted a relationship with their one female member, but it never worked out, certainly not in his favor, which only added to his hopelessness.
When Roxas came along…everything changed.
Roxas did basically the impossible for him; made Axel feel like he had a heart.
Even Axel was surprised at his feelings; after feeling numb for so long, he actually felt good; HAPPY.
The other Organization members would have none of it; most of them though he was being foolish (Saix chief among them), but Axel resisted their demands; he knew that his feelings were real, there was no denying them.
So, Roxas “cut open” Axel, in the sense that he broke through the largest barrier possible, and now Axel was experiencing a tidal wave of feelings that overwhelmed him, having not experienced them before. But he loved every moment of it, he couldn’t get enough. He loved Roxas.
But, the Organization forced him to fight Roxas, and to leave him, which, when coupled with Roxas’ lost memories of him, hurt him tremendously. But he wasn’t going to give up on him, not that easily.
Roxas, meanwhile, has some feelings of his own for Axel (yeah, I know, it may not be canon, but shut up, it fit the song!! DX). And after he saw him in Twilight Town the first time, he started getting bits and pieces of memories back about him (also not canon…again, it fit the song -_-’), and when he started voicing them to his friends, they became concerned. From their point of view, from Roxas’ description of him, Axel was not somebody he should be having any sort of relationship with. Too dangerous, too much difference in age. They just don’t want him to be hurt by this guy. But Roxas, stubborn as ever, refuses to listen to them.
But then, he remembers when he left Axel (ok, I got the timeline screwed up at this part, but I’m gonna describe it this way, so work with me, will ya?), when he had a particularly striking dream, about the person who may be his Other, when he realized that his feelings for Axel were getting in the way of what he thought he should be doing; finding out his true identity. And so, he decided to leave Axel, to find out who he was, and being rather cruel in the process.
(I like the sort-of lip-sync at 2:32; Roxas says “You cut me open,” in a negative way, because his feelings are getting in the way of what he considers to be more important)
After his battle with Axel, he realizes this, and expresses his hope that maybe they’ll be together again, even though he thinks it may be impossible.
Axel, still broken-hearted (in a metaphorical sense, at least), still can’t bring himself to hate Roxas for what he did. He still loves him, despite everything that he’s done, and everything that’s happened. But his feelings of love for him are now mixed with a deep sadness that drains him, and the experience is scarring him, changing him, and he becomes extremely desperate, resorting to betrayal and kidnapping. Saix, the one most critical of him, hunts Axel down, under his Superior’s orders, because of this.
When Axel realizes that none of his plans are going to work, he decides to do the only thing he can do; meet his Other; Sora. When he finds him, and is under threat by the lesser Nobodies, he sees Roxas in Sora; he knows it. And when things became desperate, and he realized that he just wasn’t strong enough anymore to fight the way he used to, he did the only thing, in his mind, that he could do: He sacrificed himself, giving everything he had, to save this boy he barely knew, who had the boy he loved somewhere inside him.
Afterward, when Sora found him, lying on the ground, fading away, Axel looked up at him, and saw the boy he once knew even more. (I would’ve elaborated clip-wise at this part, but I was running out of time) And he realized that Roxas had gotten what he wanted; to find and be with his Other. Thus he says “He made me feel like I had a heart…you make feel…the same.”
And when Sora looked at him, he knew that Roxas still felt the same way about him. And so he died knowing he made the right choice.
...I'm a sap! : D
oh, btw, I almost always type up my video descriptions in Microsoft Word before I post the video, so that's why I still have this ;D
