SO, after Coppertree's event on Sat, I spent Sunday afternoon cleaning out the new kitchen area, mixed both more cement and mortar to work on the last bit of the floor - the areas under the cabinets, but especially the area under where the dishwasher will be.  I've never had one.  The plumber told me that it (like the range) is an area that should have tiles under it, as it is likely to be pulled in and out, and replaced - in the lifetime of these solid, Amish built cabinets, probably quite a few times.
I painted the kitchen.  the green I picked looked too minty next to the backsplash tiles.  I got a great buy on them, Home Depot had some on clearance that beautifully match the floor tiles.  The porcelain ones made to match the floor tiles are just over $10 a square foot.  These glass ones were $3.70 sf.  The shades of white, tan, and gray in them match nicely, and bounce more light around.  But I just kept feeling slightly annoyed with the wall color.
So, the kitchen is now a very light gray.  Putting it up, I at first thought it was white.  But the overall effect is very light gray - especially next to the white primer, or any other white accents in the room.
It is lighter than the original sheet rock color, but I fear it might match the new sidewalk.   No, it is lighter than that.  But I keep asking myself if I am nuts, picking gray as a color.    It is only going to end up showing in a few places, so how can I make a mistake?
I also got the grout between the kitchen floor tiles sealed, at least with the first coat.
And I cleared out the dining room, so there will be a path for the new cabinets to get in.  So I feel I did accomplish something this weekend!
