Tie a knot around your finger??

Apr 06, 2009 12:02

So I've had a ring on constantly for four months. Not so long, right? But it feels like a heck of a long time! Especially when I have a nervous twitch and I glide my thumb across where the cool surface of the metal is supposed to be. What was once a reassuring gesture now brings me pain.

Then, since my mind often likes to wander, I began to think.

Remember the saying "Tie a knot around your finger to remember"? Well, I have to say I've tried it, and of course I would forget and the knot makes me remember. But it isn't that I remember what I need to remember, it is that I remember that I need to remember something. So that wasn't very helpful since I would prove useless at remembering something.

So the ring, everytime I feel it's phantom touch against my skin, I remember all the wonderful times that I have had with him. I can't help but remember.

So my theory on remembering is: Tie a knot around your finger so you remember. But the catch is: Make sure it is super  tight so that it cuts off all of your blood circulation, to the point where your finger almost needs to be cut off! Because the pain of the string and the distinct need of a memory combined will certainly work. It really is hard to forget when it is throbbing.

Cheers!
