holes and hiccups

Was in need of a peaceful and preferably unconscious day after last night's good performance, accidentally seeing some old Beltane and Out of the Blue pals, and getting home to R's without drowning.

Metre-long stretches of the ceiling have gone; completely across one window and along the top of an adjacent wall, bulging B-movie-like and ripped by the pressure of the water bursting out, but most of the plaster and wood still up there (decades of strong ceiling wallpaper, that's all I can say) water all soaked into the floor. Above the window is now a gaping hole with ragged edges where part of the ceiling was.

I dread to think how much work, stress and disturbance this will be, even if there existed such a thing as a fast reliable and cheap team of plumber-plasterer-chippie-roofie. Furniture will have to be moved for a start, which isn't something I can help with, and many trips to the laundrette with wrecked duvets, blankets and random clothes. I'd say burn the carpet, but it's probably all that's holding the floor up...

Apart from that I am sitting here hiccup-ping my head off. The only good thing about that is that I can't eat the packet of chocolate digestives left temptingly by the keyboard. HIC!
