Disclaimer: This is a work of my own mind, and reflects nothing of the actual lives of the included real life characters. In other words, this is for fun, don't sue me!

Summary: “Oh, that’s great commitment, Lovato! I like you, too. You, my mailman, and the stupid cashier who bagged my groceries yesterday afternoon!” Selena growls in my face.

Author’s Note: The very beginning is in Selena’s point of view. Immediately after, it’s in Demi’s point of view. Happy reading!! :)

“Your girl isn’t coming,” Megan mutters as she saunters inside.

I close my eyes briefly, letting them flutter open when a warm hand takes mine.

“Don’t worry, Selena. Meg’s got a plan.” Olivia reassures me.

Seething, I can feel my nails digging deep into the palms of my hands. My eyes narrow and I have to will myself not to let them roll as Selena’s tinkling laugh reaches my ears.

I lose the fight when Beth’s giggles join in and groan when Megan’s elbow connects with my side.

Turning my head, I hiss in her ear, “What?”

“Your girl is getting macked on right in front of you and you’re not going to do a single damn thing?”

Standing up, I fake a yawn and move for my purse, pointedly ignoring the question from the brunette next to me. “I think I’m going to go, you guys. I’m tired.”

A chorus of goodbyes sounds off, a certain brunette keeping quiet as she gazes into Beth’s eyes.

“Yeah,” I mutter, eyes not moving from Selena’s form, “Bye.”

I have to force myself not to stalk out of the room and have a tantrum. A small vibration catches my attention and I yank out my phone, nearly screaming in frustration at Megan’s text.

“She wants me to grow some balls, does she?” I grumble underneath my breath, pulling open the door to my car and stumbling inside.

There’s a sharp familiar prick and I pinch the bridge of my nose, taking in a deep breath to quell the tears.

“What happened?” I ask myself, softly.

It’s been two and a half months since the accident. Two and a half months since I walked out on Selena. Two and a half months of Beth. God, I hate that girl.

She’s so nice. So perfect. So…every single damn thing that I couldn’t be for her.

And that’s just it. That is exactly why I don’t make a move, haven’t made a move. That’s why I can’t make one.

Who am I to ruin something so good for her? She’s happy. She’s taken care of. She’s…not mine.

She’s not mine and it’s killing me.

A soft knock on my window startles me and looking up, I find myself staring up into the eyes that have been so busy looking at the wrong girl.

Praying that my eyes aren’t a telltale sign of my mood, I push the button to roll my window down and smile, though I’m sure it’s more a grimace.

“God, Demi. That’s the worst smile I’ve seen from you for a while, and believe me; you’ve given me quite a few to choose from.”

“Are you seriously here to talk to me about my inability to smile?”

Selena’s own smile falters, “No. I didn’t, actually. What’s up with all the glares and eye rolling at Beth? She hasn’t done anything to you.”

“She hasn’t- She hasn’t-“ Growling, I push open the door and clamber out, slamming it behind me. “Do you want to know what it is that has me so upset? So fucking upset?”

The other girl steps back to avoid getting hit by the door, confusion clear on her face. “I’m asking, aren’t I? You’ve just disappeared and I’m sick and tired of you not being here.”

I can hear the irritation seeping into her voice and it does nothing to quell the anger rising inside me. “She has you. You’re hers! That’s what’s got me so upset. I don’t want to hate her but I do because that is who you’re kissing. Not me, but her.”

Her eyes widen briefly before narrowing in my direction and pushing me against the side of my car, her voice low and fuming. “That’s not my fault, is it? And it certainly isn’t Beth’s fault either.”

“What are you trying to say?”

“It’s your fault that we’re not together, man up to it.”

The tall brunette turns on her heel but I grip her waist and pull her back, crashing my lips against Selena’s cheek.

Confused, I pull back and stammer, “Wait. What happened?”

“That sweet girl inside, Demi, she doesn’t deserve this.”

“That sweet girl inside, Selena, she doesn’t deserve you.”

“Then do something about it.”

Throwing my hands up in exasperation, I groan, “I thought I was!”

“No, kissing me just like that isn’t doing something about it. You can’t always be physical about this relationship. How do you feel about me, Demi?”

“I like you!”

“Oh, that’s great commitment, Lovato! I like you, too. You, my mailman, and the fucking cashier who bagged my groceries yesterday afternoon!” Selena growls in my face.

“Fuck you!”

“Yeah, Demi, fuck me and then run away! We all know that you’re really good at that!”

“What the hell did you want from me?” I scream. “I was nervous. I was scared out of my mind. I don’t do the whole relationship thing! I don’t cuddle after sex!”

“That’s what it was!?” The brunette screeches. “You ran out on me because we cuddled!”

The last part was less of a question and more of a disbelieving accusation. Before I can take time to backtrack, my left cheek is stinging and Selena has tears streaming down hers.

“You’ve got to be kidding me, Demi,” Her voice breaking on my name. “Here I thought that you were running away because you’ve got issues but nope! You’re running away from me because you can’t cuddle with someone after you’ve fucked.”

“We didn’t fuck.” I let out, my eyes watering.

“Really, Demi? Are you so emotionally incompetent that you’re going to deny that the event even happened?” She accuses.

“No, I…we didn’t fuck, Selena, because I loved you. I love you and you love me and that’s just it. We’re in love and we didn’t fuck. We made love. WE did. Not Beth and you. Not me and some whore. I love you, Selena and I want you to leave her and come give me another chance.”

“God, you really are cheesy, aren’t you?” Selena breathes out.

“I second that.” A third voice adds in.

Turning, I falter when I catch sight of Megan standing in the door. However, I can’t help but do a double take when I notice Beth standing behind her with a smile on her face. “Took you a while to break down, Lovato.”

I watch, shocked to my core as Selena’s girlfriend walks over to where she and I are standing, resting a hand on my shoulder. “I’m glad you did, though. For her sake,” She clarifies, nodding her head toward the taller brunette. She turns slightly, presses her lips to Selena’s cheek, and whispers affectionately, “It’ll all work out, hon. I told you it would.”

Dragging a hand through my hair as I watch Beth slide inside her car and take her leave, I find myself completely lost.

“Don’t fuck this up again, Lovato!” Megan calls as she turns and heads back inside the house. “We won’t go through this much trouble to get you to admit your feelings. We don’t like you that much.”

Olivia, rolling her eyes, shakes her head at me. “She’s lying. She would do it again in a heartbeat if she knew you’d be happy in the end.” The girl heads inside only to pop her head out the door, “But seriously, Demi. Don’t fuck this up.”

My back pressing up against the car, I work to sort out everything that had happened. “Was that- Everything with Beth was-“

“A set up.” Selena finishes.

“Oh.”

“The whole time?”

“Yes.”

“Wow.”

“I’m sorry.”

Narrowing my eyes, I scrutinize the other girl. “Are you really?

“No. Not really. It worked in the end.”

“I guess.”

Pausing, Selena searches my eyes, tentatively asking, “Should I be sorry?”

“No, don’t be.” I shrug, surprising myself.

Selena looks thoroughly confused, a small wrinkle forming on her brow as she fought to keep up, “Why not?”

“You’re right. I needed that kick in my ass. I tried to fight it but I can’t stand you being with another person. I need to be the person you’re with. Can you-“

I’m cut off by Selena in the most amazing way possible. Her lips against mine, moving in the familiar rhythm that I thought I had let slip through my fingers.

It’s a chaste kiss in a sense, I suppose. She’s holding my face firmly between her hands, almost as if to make sure I don’t run away, but that seems silly seeing as my arms are wrapped around her waist, securing her body against mine. It’s a clear indicator that I’m not going anywhere but I can’t blame the girl for wanting to make sure.

Her lips are still pressed against mine and though air is becoming a more prominent issue by the second with my head starting to swim, I can’t bring myself to pull away. After what seemed like hours, Selena pulls away, only far enough to take in gulps of air. Her forehead is pressed against mine, her eyes closed, her bruised lips parted. It’s enough for me to push forward just enough to brush my lips against hers briefly.

“Would you look at that? We’re the same height, Sel.” I breathe out, the tension weighing heavily over my head.

A soft chuckle relieves that weight and a small smile graces Selena’s lips. “You wish, Lovato. If you weren’t wearing those heels, you wouldn’t even come close.”

I scoff indignantly, falling easily into the banter when Selena’s eyes flutter open, effectively chasing every thought revolving on anything other than her out of my head.

“This doesn’t mean we’re okay. We need to talk about everything.” She whispers, her hands dropping to my shoulders.

“God forbid that this would be that easy.” I tease, already nervously anticipating the talk.

“Demi, I mean it. You can’t hide behind your jokes and sarcasm this time.”

Nodding, I cup the side of her face and leave butterfly kisses wherever my lips land, “I won’t. I meant what I said and as much as I’m not looking forward to this-“ I pause, emphasizing the point, “-and I’m really not looking forward to this, I’ll be completely open about it.”

“Good.” She answers. “Come on, it’s time to talk.”

My jaw slack, the other girl climbs in to the passenger side of my car. “Now?”

I need like a week, at least a few days, hours to prepare!

Groaning internally, I get inside and slump in the driver’s seat.

This blows.

Author's Note: We're down to the last two chapters! It's the home stretch! I can see the end!! Please leave your thoughts because I love hearing from you guys. Also, if any of you guys are Glee fans, more specifically, Rachel/Quinn, I've started a tentative fic which is a very loose, almost nothing like, spin-off of Dexter. It includes a foul-mouthed Detective Quinn and a neurotic Rachel. Check it out and if you'd like to, leave your feedback. I love hearing from you!! :)
