Cecy has collected various things from all over the world. It has taken her a while to do so; Sometimes brought home in the mouth of a migrating bird, other times stowed in a ship bound for the Americas -- she is resourceful. She sits on her bed and spreads them out in front of her: A feather of an exotic Asian bird --with its dark purples and blues, iridescent under the dim light of her room--, a small brooch which once belonged to a working-class Irishwoman --passed down generation to generation, but accidentally thrown out with the trash--, a piece of coral from Australia, a small cacao bean from Mexico --the scent fills the entire room--, and other small bits and bobs. From a distance, they seem worthless, but Cecy knows their origin.

And when Timothy arrives, she will smile and say "Happy birthday, little brother.", then proceed to tell him the story of each item. This is her present each year.
