OBTD: Nelson & Evie's Mix

Mar 15, 2011 03:31

“AM180” is about being able to be together and do nothing at all and still be happy while “Little Deschutes” is more of a statement of wanting permanence in the future and wanting nothing more than to simply be together. “Don’t Bring Me Down”, “Adore You”, and “Boats and Birds” have a calm morning in sort of feel to them, the sort of mornings I think Evie and Nelson have often where they just want to lay tangled together all day. All couples who are in love have those moments, but I think they’re particularly special for Nelson and Evie; plus they’re such a happy, innocent couple, their relationship is one long moment of sunshine together.

“Gabriel” is from Evie’s point of view that even though Nelson doesn’t think of himself as particularly brave, she does, especially since he helped get them safely to Dresden and he’s second in charge now. She also knows that love wouldn’t be love to her without Nelson to share it with. “Here With Me” has the same sort of feel to it - that with the other, anything is possible.

“All I Do” is very self-explanatory.

The 7 tracks after it (“Even So” - “I Have Loved You Wrong”) are set after the semi-tryst with Elliott. With “Even So”, Evie has to think about confessing to Nelson and she hopes that he won’t think that she’s ever wanted anyone besides him before and she realizes now that she’s been wrong to wonder about the grass on the other side of the fence. “The Moment I Said It” is Evie finally confessing and her reaction to Nelson’s immediate reaction and the outrage he feels. “Just Friends” - Nelson feels appropriately betrayed and hurt and angry and confused as to why Evie would hurt him. “I Put a Spell On You” is Nelson feeling possessive of Evie and confrontational towards Elliott, but also a little like she bewitched and tricked him into believing that she loved him only to turn around and hurt him like their love was false. “No One” is Evie’s regret and her even though Nelson is upset with her, her own guilty mind tortures her more than any external force. “I Have Loved You Wrong” - Evie’s apology to Nelson for hurting him. “I Found a Reason” is for Evie the realization that she doesn’t need or want anyone else besides Nelson and that what happened before was actually a good thing because it brought about this epiphany.

“Seal Jubilee” evokes a lot of imagery that I personally associate with Evie because it’s childlike and innocent and bordering on the edge of fantasy like the sort of perfect world that she would want to surround herself with and then there’s also the slipping of paradise and the replacing of fantasy with realism which she and Nelson face in their own relationship - they’ve come out of that first flush and into a love that’s more expansive and grown up and stronger and they’re both changed because of it. The rest pretty cut and dry!

Enjoy!
