Profiting from your crimes

I saw some statistics earlier about how much money some Democratic congress members were making from lobbyist groups, we're talking amounts over the half million mark. With that sort of green being thrown around do we really believe these people are in office to represent our interests? Hell I'm not even sure they are there to advance their own dirty little agendas now but rather just to make some big money. Washington and the entire political system is a total joke and in dire need of major change, get the damn lobbyists out, cut congressional salaries and take away any perks not directly related to work, ie. no more free travel unless it's government business.
Although I didn't see any numbers for the Republican members I'm sure they are equally grotesque.
Isn't there a law prohibiting criminals from profiting from their crimes anyway, sheesh.
