So as much of a bad day Wednesday was (with the infinite mood-ruining capabilities of ze muzzer), yesterday was fabulous. In simple, unremarkable ways.
Went to a student-staff liaison meeting in the morning, meant for student representatives to voice the opinions of their fellow students to members of staff who can actually do something about the issues. I'm not a student rep yet, but I signed up for next year and the woman at the admin office said I can go even if I'm not a rep, just to voice my opinion and stuff. So I did go, and it was generally very interesting.
We discussed module feedback and general issues (such as the lack of sufficient copies of set books in the library), and it was quite smooth. Interestingly, the new head of English (same guy who was all "I'm really sorry but there's nothing I can do about your cancelled module even though I should have told you months ago, heh" back in October) seems very keen to fix certain things that are bothering students, including getting my Short Story group's coursework remarked in the interest of fairness.
What happened was that the people in my group alone were not marked by our tutor, but by some other guy instead, who did not like the teachings of our tutor and decided to mark us all down and give us Cs and Ds. A lot of people are mistakenly thinking that what Neil taught us last term was effectively "wrong" because we're getting low marks for our stories. And the head of English said "yeah I'm aware there's an issue there, I'll raise the point at the Undergraduate meeting to get the coursework remarked". Well, that's nice of him :)
Then I walked with Emily to her workplace (the postgrad building) where she types up emails and stuff for a professor. We chatted about the modules and what we plan to do for our dissertations, then I went back to the school of arts to ask about my Short Story coursework which I actually haven't got back yet. they said they've mailed it, so it's "on its way to me". Pfff.
I had to return some manga books to Stuart so I went by his place, gave them to him and got my Serenity comic book back, and then I met Amy at Harrow for food and a movie :) We saw I Love You, Philip Morris, which looked much more spectacular when it was just a trailer :P We weren't thoroughly impressed by it, although Ewan McGregor was ADORABLE. So cute cute cute. We might be biased, but he was amazing.
Then we returned home and watched one YamaNade episode (#8!!) and two Hidarime episodes, which have made us fear a possible reverse Orthros no Inu, ie. Yumeto and Ainosuke not being brothers and some strange plot twist bringing both of them to a tearful and life-threatening climax. IDK. Hidarime has been kind of bad throughout, with limited budget and crappy quality as a production, and the script has been kind of terrible from episode 4 onwards, so I really have no high expectations of any kind. We just laugh at it now. :P
Oh by the way,
happy birthday Amyyyy :)
