When life gives you lemons, you make apple juice from concentrate.

WHAT A DAY, PEOPLE. What a day. Mainly due to the epic fail that is the English people, who by the way still confuse me (and annoy me greatly, occasionally) but oh, they amuse me so.

It started out as an innocent outing to go watch Valkyrie. I had checked the cinema website and only found one cinema that is anywhere we can actually get to that still played it. We took a couple trains, got ourselves over there, only to find they weren't even playing it anymore. I was furious at myself and at the cinema. What about the information on the website?! If you're going to take the movie down at least take it off EVERYWHERE, and no cheating with fake website infoz. I felt like a total idiot, honest, for dragging both Amy and myself down to Fulham Broadway for nothing. >_<

So we were like "... home?" ¬___¬ But it would have been a total waste. So we decided to go to Finchley Road, where there is also a shopping centre and another movie theatre, and maybe we'd find something interesting to do there. But on the way we changed our mind, and went to IKEA in Neasden instead.

On the Jubillee line on our way to IKEA we had the most brilliant train driver EVER, who was also incidentally a British woman (you can so tell by the voice). We got to West Hampstead which is a few stops from where IKEA is, stopped at the station but the doors didn't open. The people who wanted to get off the train gathered at the door but nothing moved. Then the train started to move again when suddenly it screeched to a stop with a loud BEEEEEEEEP coming from the speakers. We were like "O_____o whut". But then, it was awesome:
Driver: Okay, tell me what the problem is. (Apparently someone had pulled one of those red levers that you pull on emergencies when you want to alert the driver.)
Brief silence.
Driver: ... I'm sorry could you repeat that?
Brief silence.
Driver: Oh didn't I open them? I'm terribly sorry!

She was completely zoned out, lol. There was a long pause during which apparently she tried to open the doors but due to some technical problem or whatever she couldn't do it, so she said "I thought I opened the doors at West Hampstead but apparently I didn't, so bear with me". Amy and I were literally laughing our asses off at the brilliance of it all. Eventually some people from the station came over to the train, pressed a button or something and the doors opened, people got off, people got on, we were on our way. But that whole experience was really lol-some.
Upon getting there Amy made the remark that this country is positively weird and confusing. And before you ask what about it is confusing, I will tell you: EVERYTHING. The people, what they consider satisfying, the kind of lives they lead, what they complain about (virtually everything and virtually all the time). One thing in particular that bugs the hell out of me every single day is the answer people give me when I ask "How are you/How have you been" - "Not too bad." What the hell is that even supposed to mean? Why are they always so focused on the bad rather than the good or the okay? I've never been able to say "not too bad", I find it grossly inaccurate and dare I say rude, even. You're either "good", "okay", "fine", "alright", or not. It just bugs me SO MUCH that everything in this country is supposed to be a deviation from the negative, a way to cope with the crap that is life. Brighten up, silly English people. Life can be beautiful even with your depressing weather and flora and cuisine. If you'll just open up your hearts just a little bit and stop being such bitter grumpy gits.

And then as we were walking towards IKEA, Amy uttered the most brilliant quote for today: "When life gives you lemons, you make apple juice from concentrate."

This translates to SHEER AWESOMENESS for two reasons:
one, our epic inside joke about apple juice from concentrate (which we both enjoy immensely, Amy in particular);
two, changing the crappiness that is the trip-halfway-through-London-for-nothing into something completely different but actually enjoyable.
Oh my, Amy, how symbolic!! Deep da!! :D

So we had a dessert at IKEA (me: chocolate mousse, Amy: strawberry tart) and then went to buy some things that we needed for the house. Certain kitchen items and stuff, basically. A grater, a cover for a frying pan, scissors, a pack of dinner table knives that can actually cut through beef steak :P, and two face towels that say the word "towel" on them on several different language, including japanese. :D
At the check-out the dude was really nice and helpful, and also very amusing.

Check-out dude: Are you over 21?
Me: O___o I'm 19.
Amy: 20.
Check-out dude: I can't sell you these knives, you need to be over 21.
Me (to Amy): Isn't this a little ironic?
Amy: Yeah, my birthday is in a month, I'll be 21.
Check-out dude: Sorry about that.

And the scissors were also over 21 but he let us have them :P JOYYY.

We arrived home safe and without any further weirdness of trains and watched episodes 13 and 14 of Boys Over Flowers, which made us particularly happy and mushy because of all the Hyunjoong-ness *_________* MOAR EPS LIKE THAT, PLZ. Seriously, we melted all over a couple of times. Spoilers below the cut.
  •
    • I absolutely loved how Domyouji handled the "break-up" - like a million times better than in the Japanese version. I think MatsuJun's performance in the first few episodes of HYD2 was what made me stop watching the series :P He was just so out of it, boring even. But Gu Jyn Pyo, what grace! And then the confrontation with the evil witch his mother made everything fall into place. Very nicely done, IMO.
    • F4 becoming Jandi's friends and defending her to Jun Pyo etc, OMG HOW SWEET. Especially Kim Bum's character, FDJKSFJDK. I like him a whole lot more than Matsuda Shota's version, because he shows more dedication and emotion towards his friends and towards Ga Eul as well (wah, their relationship in this one is so, SO amazing and sweet, and much more complete too). And the mobster guy, he's so amusing with his "yo yo what's up yo" attitude, lol. And it's good that I can actually stand his face :P Because his Japanese counterpart? Talk about fugly :P
    • Gay guy in ep15 who's totally into Ji Hoo? I literally sat there with my mouth open at the brazenness of it all, and the dude just coming out of nowhere and snatching Ji Hoo's arm and him being all breezy about it. WTF?! :P He was amusing, I'll give him that, but oh man, too much.
    • What is up with Jandi's outfits?! For a poor girl, she sure has too many, too stylish outfits :P
    • And man, the Ryo/Tsukushi-ness of these two episodes make me go back to my initial feelings about this whole triangle thing, back to original HYD tiemz. But in this series the Domyouji/Tsukushi is much more clear and dare I say they look better together (maybe because Jun Pyo > Domyouji), but Ji Hoo is also hotter and prettier and just much more affectionate and in love with Tsukushi/Jandi compared to Shun's Rui.
    • AND THE TRIANGLE IS BACK, OH YEAHHHH XD
  •
And then we watched the Kurosagi movie, complete with the making of and a couple of interviews. It was unpleasant how they completely pushed Tsurara to the background this time, the intense relationship with Kurosaki was barely even there in the movie :( Very unfair, IMO. I loved Yamapi's performance though, and the storyline was very good as well. Kind of like an extended drama episode really, but the increased budget made it all the more spiffy.

Funny bit from one of the interviews, Horikita Maki said upon being asked what she thinks of her character, that "it's a hard role for me because it's difficult to play someone I'm not interested in (!)". Cue Yamapi glancing at her sideways* in a "should you be really saying this" kind of way, and then upon being asked what he thinks of Horikita's character he said that "she (Tsurara)'s the ideal type for me" So there Maki, in your face :P stop saying embarassing things in interviews plz :P
This really made us think about Horikita Maki and what kind of person she is, because she seems really sort of uptight and closed in a typical Japanese-woman sort of way, a vibe which we'd never caught before from any of her roles (that goes to show the level of her acting, you could say).

And after all this amazingness, and with the time being O____o 5:30am, I must go to bed.
I have a concert with the pop choir tomorrow, we're singing an Abba meddley from Mamma Mia :D Yayy~
