Information was gathered from an Associated Press news report, via yahoo, titled Lawyer: Madoff will plead guilty to all charges.
Apparently, 70 year old former Nasdaq chairman Bernard Madoff will plead guilty to all 11 felony charges, such as securities fraud and perjury. He is expected to face a sentence of up 150 years in prison.
Okay. I actually heard this yesterday on MPB after work while I was running some errands and paying some bills. This royally pisses me off. The man is 70 years old. He will NOT face a sentence of 150 years. At best, he will probably do 20. Frankly, I believe he should be taken out back and shot or hung, as they would be the less expensive options, but that's' just me. Yeah, sure, it's cruel and unusual for his particular set of crimes, but if you consider the number and scope of his victims, not really.
On a more serious note though, why in sanity's sake do we even give multiple sentences that equate to some extraordinarily long time that they only way to serve would be via major (expensive) medical intervention? To me, that's like our justice system drooling and stumbling out with "I'm so stupid I don't even offer out realisitic sentences" Realistic in homeskillet's? 30, but to be safe, we'll say 50. That gives us ~10 years leeway from the death age of the latest world's oldest citizen.
