wow. so i spent the entire weekend in upstate ny with my family. that was a serious party. i looked at too many schools, it's all turning into some big, messy college blur in my mind now.
friday night we drove up to cornell and slept at a hotel on the campus, but we didn't take a tour the next day. cornell is too big for me.
saturday morning we went to ithaca and hobart william-smith.
ithaca: cool courses, campus was rather dreary. the lady that i interviewed with was really helpful and nice.
hobart william-smith: very student-friendly, lots of interesting classes, but kind of earthy-preppy for me... we'll see. i swear my tour guide WAS burns, except a sophomore in college and a bit perky. they have a really awesome study abroad program.
then we drove to syracuse and stayed overnight, we went to a lacrosse scrimmage (dull) and stayed up late watching bad television and eating chocolate. it was an alright valentine's day, my brother and i and i hung out in our room. we couldn't visit syracuse because there weren't any tours going on, but i didn't like it there, anyway. there's no town. there's a giant mall and a depressed side-of-the-highway city, but that's about it.
sunday morning we drove up to hamilton, and kicked around at this little b&b there. nothing is open on sundays during the day in hamilton. nothing. we drove around the campus and went out to dinner.
today we decided not to go on the hamilton tour, as, in my estimation, hamilton is the town i live in, except after the downtown has been removed, the population has been shrunk to 1/4th of its former size, and the whole town has been dropped right down in the middle of nowhere in upstate ny. not exactly my speed. we drove to colgate instead.
colgate: i don't know what it is about that place, but i feel really comfortable there. i know it's in the middle of nowhere, and it's freezing, but it's such a cool campus and everyone is really friendly. their course options and their facilities are killer. they have this huge, amazing art gallery, and an english class that involves the teacher giving the students a book or some articles to read at the beginning of the week, and then the author of the work(s) comes in at the end of the week to discuss them! how cool is that?! plus, colgate reminds me of colorado, the entire place looks like beaver creek. it seems pretty safe there as well. not to mention the fact that they gave us ice cream sandwiches at the end of the tour... not that it had anything to do with my feelings on the school... ha. (p.s., there was this girl in my information session who looked exactly like ashley from degrassi with short blonde hair! freaky!)
