I finished reading this book, A Million Little Pieces, and the author is just frickin' amazing and I love the book. Oprah raved about him & to be honest it was the first book that I read that I heard about through Oprah. But anyway, so Oprah has James Frey on and I still haven't watched it from the 1st time he was on but I have it taped and was gonna watch it once I finished the book. So I'm done..and while I was waiting today for Best Buy to finish putting my stereo in my car(which, by the way I've been without a radio for about 4 months now, so it's a big deal!)..anyway, I had Oprah taped while I was gone cause I had heard James Frey was gonna be on again and this time Oprah was questioning him about some of the things that were "tweaked" in his book. So initially Oprah was all, Oh I don't care, it's a good book I support James...and then she got tons of hate mail and suddenly changed her views. First off....HOW many people have written a book, a memior, where everything wasn't completely accurate? I mean c'mon. It just really has ticked me off. It's a fantastic book and it IS his life to his drunken drugged out memory. It bothers me that like everything else in the news, it was blown out of proportion. She made it seem like he made upbeing a drug addict and that he was never in treatment. She was all like the "key" parts of the book are not true. WOW. That's a stretch! Ok, in the book he talked about that he was gonna have to go to jail for up to 3 months cause his judge friend worked it down...and he only ended up going for a day. Yeah okay, why say 3 months but it's not like he made everything up. He still went to frickin' jail! He was still in rehab. Every pain, hurt, joy, everything he wrote was what he remembered. It's just selfish to make a whole show because "Oprah felt embarassed"...get over yourself, seriously. It's not like he was some elementary teacher that volunteered with homeless people on the side that was trying to make a quick buck by making up a complete life of lies. The whole theme of the book is true. It's just lame when people are used to make an example. We know you have power, Oprah. We know. He's saved lives with his book just in these past short months. I just wanna call her out. I just think she was out of line and it bothers me and I don't usually let things, especially something random on TV get to me. But this is a dude's career, his livelihood. His way of frickin' life. He's still honest. He didn't kill anyone. He told HIS story. I mean Bill Clinton wrote his own memior, I'm sure at least 5 of those pages were not accurate. No one is climbing down his throat. It's just sad that most jump at the chance to discredit someone over something miniscule. I agree that it was pointless for him to alter things in the book cause it still woulda been good, but if he was writing about me in that book, I would want him to change my name or make something diff. than is really correct about me as a person, so I wouldn't be so recognizable as THAT person that he wrote about. And Oprah was all like, and you wrote on the last page that Lilly committed suicide by hanging..is that true. And he's like she actually slit her wrists but I was trying to protect her and Oprah jumped on him again and was all, oh is one better than the other, I'm Oprah I wanna make you look like a piece of scum. Honestly, if he lied about Lilly. If she didn't actually exist I'd be pissed cause she's a crucial part of the book..but him going to jail was not even part of the book, it was briefly mentioned.
I just felt so bad for James Frey cause I mean to be on Oprah in itself, would be terrifying really..but to be on her show just to have her ridicule me..and show numerous clips of people saying horrible things about me and how the book is still good no matter what but that I am a disgusting person. yada yada yada. And then to have 3 other guests to attack him as well, seemed unfair. She didn't even let him talk. And when she did it was breif and she was mean. His facial expression throughout the whole show was just screaming wow thanks for making me seem like a piece of shit. AHHH it bugs me. I should write her instead of just ranting on my LJ. I mean it's acceptable for news reporters to make as big a deal about a school shooting as they do snow flurries...or Katrina as they do a high school election. THey can make things more dramatic cause that's how they perceive it or want us to feel about it. But some dude who went through hell and back and back again and wrote about it, gets thrown in the garbage disposal cause he said he was gonna go to jail for longer than he did. get a grip.
