Today had a few rough spots, but overall was very pleasant. The highlights reel is that I got to go to SF, through the Asian Art Museum (for a paper) and then to the Kinokunya center for geekery and crepes.
- I've been actually playing Odin Sphere lately. Weird as it may seem, this game goes well with spring. Either that or I've finally got the controls down. Before I went to the Asian, I finished up Cornelius's story and shrieked at the screen a lot. And then I saw the beginning of Mercedes chapter and made loud, piteous noises at
nekokoban. Oh my god I think this game just got a little more epic at me. Fimbulwhat indeed.
- I almost left my notepad in the coatcheck. A++ self. Also, note, your teeth are too touchy for salad for a bit, no mater if there is delicious, delicious soba to be had with it.
- There were two exhibits that I made a point to look at at the Asian. One was about painting in Edo, and one was about a guy who does metal sculpture of "scholars rocks." Though I liked the painting exhibit a lot, it was noisy and hard to concentrate in the room, so I just browsed around instead of choosing my essay in there.
(This was my personal favorite, of which I wish I could find a larger copy of. ) But the dude who sculpts rocks also did a
very cool instillation of the city which I'm going to compare to Eastern Han funerary goods instead.
- They've also redone some of the permanent collections recently. They've put out a small alcove...on a sheik whose name I am woefully forgetting...in the India section, and they've totally rotated the Korea collection stuff (like this one VERY intense painting by a monk that literally stomped me in my tracks of Guan Yin), and they've put in a hall about jade. My favorite calligraphy scrolls is gone now, though, which is sad because it looked like something out of Mushishi with the way the characters looked more like characters and less like text, but I love the textile masks they have now instead. I really need to go to museums more often. I haven't been to the Legion in years and this is sad because the Legion is out at World's End, which is the prettiest part of SF, when the fog is rolling in.
- After wandering through the Asian I went to Japantown, which although mostly uphill, was a nice walk through the city. I love walking through the city, if only for the sheer plethora of life that's there. I'd totally forgotten about the Kinokunya remodeling, so it was a nice surprise to walk into. I like the new layout, although I'm sad that the crepes and the manga are no longer on the same level. Got some orgami paper from my mom, and picked up Amatsuki 7 + 6. (They have the rest too, I just didn't have enough for all of them.) The missing chapters are, well...EXPLANATORY, I think.
- After picking up the latest Abe Sapian, I went home and then to Kinkos and scanned a lot of the missing volume 7.
Which is here. After the omake, it's not in order, and there's about six pages of that first chapter I didn't get, but...zomg Takyama.
- I also started reading the latest Temaire today. AAAH AAAH WHAT HARACORT WHAT ARE YOU DOING AAAAAH WE NEED TEMAIRE BACK IN CAMP GUYS AAAHHH
