This weekend I ventured to Cardiff, mainly in order to visit a
sophia_fred but also
nuchtos if the opportunity presented itself.
Typically the weather took a dislike to my plan and rained so hard that half of Wales flooded. Trains don't particularly like running underwater, so when I finally met Sophia in Cardiff station it took us a further 2 hours to get to Treherbert. I've found out where all the Northern Leyland-Bus-built Class 142s and 143s have gone though - all to Arriva Trains Wales, the cheap so-and-so's. At least they've ripped out the 80s bus interiors and done them up inside.
Anyway, once I got there I had a pretty good weekend. The trains were back in action on Saturday so we headed into Cardiff to meet up with
nuchtos. He good naturedly put up with being dragged round nearly every book and comic shop in Wales (hey, we could've been clothes shopping!) after which we caught RockNRolla at the cinema. I thought it was a really good film! Not a classic, but very entertaining. It's Guy Ritchie playing gangsters in London, so obviously he knows what he's doing direction wise, there's a solid plot and good performances all round (loved the Russian dudes, they were amazing in a Duracell bunny way).
palovana should like it as it stars Gerard Butler, looking pretty tidy I must say, but I'd recommend it to anyone.
Apart from that I helped Sophia put down carpets, stole a load of her music whilst she stole a bit of mine and we made cunning plans to meet up in Donny sometime in December, possibly Christmas. Also it looks like we might be doing a mini tour of Europe next summer! Yay! It's something I've wanted to do for a while - just spend maybe a month or so bumming around, travelling from festival to festival - but seeing as I'm graduating a year after a lot of my friends (not all, admittedly, but enough to count) I thought there might not be anyone else up for it. It was really good to see her again, hope I wasn't annoying or owt!
In other news, I suddenly have a work mountain to get through but it's interspersed with things like a conference on train reliability in London and maybe another trip up to Wabtec to photograph gear box components. Otherwise I'd probably go mad from the constant formatting and re-formatting of these neverending maintenance documents. I swear they're breeding in that folder. Fortunately my boss seems to think I'm doing a good job despite my inability to keep my eyes open between 1pm and 2pm, so maybe they'll look favourably on an application to their Grad scheme. I can only hope...
