Yo LA Tengo!

I didn't know what to expect from a Yo La Tengo show. I haven't listened to a great deal of their music or read a lot of press about them. I read how they portrayed the Velvet Underground in the movie "I Shot Andy Warhol," and were compared a lot to VU and Sonic Youth, and I know they've been around for quite a few years. I heard about them from an old roommate of mine, although he never had a lot of positive things to say about them. Ultimately, I went to the show more out of curiosity than anything. I'm very thankful for my curious nature. I was treated to an abundance of noise-driven pop music that, to be honest, didn't sound like what I'd remembered listening to on their albums. I'm sure they were the same songs, but I guess I just wasn't paying attention. I stood against the stage on the far right corner, about an arm's-length from Ira Kaplan and his pedals. He's a wonderful performer to watch, he wears his passion for what he does.
