I have a part in the play!

Looking at it from a non stage perspective, it's the smallest part in the play.

I play a police officer called Benson. I have about three lines but I'm on stage for quite a bit of the play - just under half of it. I'm on for most of the second act actually which is the longest act. My lines are spread quite far apart as well - two yes sirs and one "Pollock's found the pills sir, here you are!"

It sounds easy but it's gonna be quite difficult as I and everyone else has said because I can't switch off for a single minute as soon as the second act starts. Benson moves around a lot, writes notes at random intervals and at the end there is a really good action sequence where he arrests the murderer. So, I'm gonna have to be on my game mentally throughout the whole thing - it actually can be harder when you're on stage with minimal lines, it makes the acting more difficult because it's just so easy to switch off and if you do and miss a cue then you put everyone else out of whack. I have to stay totally switched on. Harder to play a character without saying anything too!

I didn't get the other roles because my age went against me. If I played the lead, I'd be at least ten years younger than the woman playing my wife and the guy supposed to be my childhood friend and it just doesn't look right so I can see why I wasn't given the roles. I was a bit unlucky in the sense that a lot of the characters are 30 somethings but early 20's can be an awkward age and as I get older, I'm sure I'll be able to get more parts.

But I am happy to be on stage at all. It should be a really good experience and it's actually a harder acting job than people with a lot of lines so it will be interesting!

And who knows - I might look really tasty in police uniform!
