Gah!
Okay, that sounds like a Luke/Reid line (yes, I tend to associate everything with LuRe, leave me alone!) but I actually read it in The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, which I just finished last night and which I completely loved.
Summary in a nutshell: It's set in the future, which is very controlled, strict and a dictatorship, really, where children from 12 districts (which are like states) are selected randomly each year to take part in a competition where they have to literally fight each other to the death and where only one can survive. That the main character, Katniss, is a 16-year-old girl who's so awesome is the best thing about the novel.
I've been hearing great things about these novels (it's a trilogy, I believe) for a bit now but I've been too busy at work and with other stuff in RL and with LuRe and fic writing so I hadn't had a chance to read a book in a year. A year!
And then I heard about the film they're adapting from the novel, which looks totally kick-ass (especially since one of my favorite actresses, Elizabeth Banks, is in it).
Kind of spoilerish but not really: I'm shipping Katniss/Peeta (yeah, it's a het couple for a change!) SO MUCH now. These two are fantastic together. They're both representing the same district in the games, and thus, have to fight each other, but in the midst of all this terror and brutality, they manage to forge an interesting relationship. When Peeta utters that line, I melted. *sigh*
NEED to get the 2nd book ASAP! In the meantime, I'm finishing up a LuRe one-shot which I should have up sometime this week (still stuck on the WIP, though, and don't know if I'll continue it). It was nice to take a break from writing for a bit to enjoy a great book, and if anyone out there is looking for something to read, I highly recommend this one.
