29 “Do you honestly think that sounds like me?”
“Is it supposed to sound like you? The less, the better, no?”
Reid playfully hit the back of Luke’s head.
Luke laughed. “Hey, watch the hair.”
Reid ran his hand through Luke’s hair, messing it up some more on purpose.
“Reid, cut it out, or you’re on your own!” yelled Luke, batting Reid’s hand away from his head.
Reid immediately retracted his hand. “No, no, no, you have to help me, Luke.”
“That’s what I’m trying to do,” Luke said, motioning to his laptop.
They were sitting in bed, Luke with his back against the headboard and his computer on his lap and Reid stretched out beside him, preparing the speech that Reid, as Chief of Staff, was supposed to deliver at a fundraising gala for the hospital the following night.
Reid had his head propped on two pillows as he lay on his side, facing Luke. “I’m just saying that it doesn’t sound like something I’d say. It almost sounds like I’m begging them for their money.”
“As someone who knows what you sound like when you beg, I can assure you that this isn’t it,” Luke said, smirking.
Reid tapped Luke’s leg with his foot. “Luke.”
“Okay, which part don’t you like?”
“When I ask them how much I’d appreciate their donations.”
“Which is the whole point of this speech and the entire event.”
“Yeah, but can’t you phrase it a little differently? It sounds like that’s the only reason we invited them-to milk them for their money,” Reid explained.
“Again, that is the only reason they’re there,” Luke said empathically.
“Luke, come on, work with me here.”
“How do you want me to write it then?”
“Don’t ask me; you’re the writer.”
Luke sighed in frustration but started typing frantically.
Reid sat up and leaned closer to Luke, trying to read what Luke was typing.
Luke paused and looked at Reid, who was only three inches away from his face. “Do you mind?”
Reid rolled his eyes and sat back against the headboard. He bent his knees and began tapping on them with his hands.
“Reid.”
“What?”
Luke shook his head but continued typing. After a few minutes, he looked at Reid. “How is that?”
Reid leaned in, almost close enough to touch Luke’s cheek with his own, to read the text on the screen.
Luke waited, staring at Reid’s eyes as they followed the words. He swallowed hard and then smiled, giddy at the effect that being in close proximity to his boyfriend had on him.
“Well?”
Reid turned his face to Luke’s and pushed his lips onto his. Luke grunted in surprise before giving in to the kiss whole-heartedly.
“That good, huh?” asked Luke smugly after they parted.
Reid sat back. “You’re an excellent writer, Luke.”
Luke blushed. “Thanks.”
“That’s why I’m glad you’re going back to school.”
Luke’s eyes returned to his laptop and nodded as he resumed typing. “Come Monday.”
Reid stared at him. “You nervous?”
“Yeah, a little bit,” Luke admitted. He stopped typing and looked at Reid. “A lot, actually.”
Reid touched Luke’s shoulder and gently rubbed it. “Don’t be.”
“Easy for you to say, Mr. Harvard. I bet you were at the top of your class on your very first day,” Luke said teasingly.
“Not on my first day,” Reid teased back. “But you’ll be ace. You’re a brilliant man, and you’re going to have the best tutor helping you out, remember?”
Luke smiled and nodded.
Reid kissed the top of his head before getting out of bed. He opened the large closet to rifle through his suits.
“Do you think Chris and Tim will like it?” Luke asked with some concern.
“If it gets them their money,” Reid called out, “they’ll love it.”
Luke saved the speech to a USB and shut off his computer. His phone vibrated against his leg. Luke read the message on the screen (Its coming together, will call you tomorrow, give kiss to fine doctor of yours for me, bye darling) and smiled.
“What time is your flight?”
Luke momentarily froze before placing the phone on the nightstand and sitting up on the bed. “Eight.”
He was taking Noah back to Los Angeles the following day to satisfy the last condition of Ruth’s deal. For Luke, though, this short trip-he was dropping off Noah at his apartment and then hopping on the next plane back to Oakdale the same day-was about something more.
“Reid?”
“Yeah?”
“You know why I’m going with Noah, right?”
Reid closed the door to the closet and made his way over to the bed. “The fucking deal,” he said as he sat on the bed.
“There’s that but there’s something else too,” Luke said, shifting closer to Reid.
“Okay.”
“I want to help Noah as a friend, I’ll admit that. And you said you’re okay with it, right?”
Reid nodded.
But I’m also planning something . . . against Ruth.”
“What are you talking about?” asked Reid curiously. “She’s gone, Luke.”
“With my money and our dignity, and she’s not getting away with it,” Luke stated.
“Says you?”
“Says me,” Luke said with a mischievous smile.
“What are you planning?”
“I can’t tell you all the specifics because I don’t know them all yet, but I’ll fill you in as soon as I figure everything out.”
Reid stared at Luke, trying to absorb what his boyfriend was saying. “What-what about the information she has on me?”
“She won’t be able to do anything with it after I’m done with her.”
Reid just kept staring.
“I got one of the guys who used to work for me at Grimaldi Shipping to track her every move. He’s been following her since she left Oakdale.”
“Where is she now?”
“In Asia.”
“Luke-”
“And I’ve enlisted the help of a few others to keep her where she needs to be until the plan is set.”
“Plan? Luke, what the hell is this about?”
“It’s about us, Reid. She came here and played us and almost destroyed us. I’m not letting her get away with it.”
“Then why give her the money in the first place? Why not stop her when she was still here and I could’ve helped you?” Reid asked, louder than he intended.
“I was going to let her leave with the money,” Luke stated. “I just wanted her gone, especially after the way we both were when she left. I didn’t want to give her any cause to destroy you after she’d almost ruined us. I wanted to protect you from her as much as I could.”
“And now?”
“That night I came home, after she’d gone, I saw how much you blamed yourself for bringing her here. I hate to hear you hurt like that.”
“Luke,” Reid whispered, reaching out and grasping one of his hands.
“It’s true. And then it looked like we were going to fix things between us, and that’s when I knew that I had to stop her. I don’t want her-or anyone else-to ever come between us again.”
Reid stared at Luke in awe. “That’s when you planned it?”
“Well, I started thinking about it then, but like I said, I still don’t have everything quite ready yet,” Luke said.
“Tell me. What can I do to help?”
Luke quickly shook his head. “No, Reid, you’re not doing anything. See, you’re the only one she still has leverage on. I don’t want you involved in this at all because she can still hurt you.”
“But I’m sure I can come up with a plan,” Reid stated.
“I’m sure you can, genius, but I got it.” He stared suspiciously at Reid. “Should I be a bit worried that you’re not fighting me on this and instead are behind me one-hundred percent?”
Reid snorted. “Please, that woman deserves it.”
Luke nodded. “True. But leave this to your boyfriend, okay?”
“The Grimaldi heir.”
“Unfortunately-or fortunately, in this case,” Luke said with a grin.
Reid finally laughed, surprised by Luke’s actions but impressed by his boldness. “I can’t believe you’re doing this.”
Luke shrugged. “Someone has to.”
“You’re not going to kill her, are you?”
Luke didn’t answer.
Reid’s eyes widened. “Luke!”
“No,” he said, laughing. “No one’s killing anybody.”
Reid swatted Luke’s arm. “Don’t do that. I mean, I know you wouldn’t but still, don’t joke about it.”
“Sorry.”
Reid got closer to Luke on the bed and put his hands on Luke’s hips. “Will you be okay, Luke? You won’t be in any danger, will you?” he asked worriedly. “If there’s even a chance of you getting hurt, I don’t want you to do it.”
Luke placed his hands on Reid’s upper arms. “No, I’ll be fine. The only one who has anything to worry about tomorrow is Ruth Mason.”
“Why didn’t you tell me sooner?”
“Truthfully, I didn’t know if I would be going through with it but tomorrow is the day and well, I have to do it. And of course, I don’t want you involved, but I had to tell you what might be going down. I want to be honest with you.”
Reid looked down between them and exhaled. “Wow, Luke, I never thought-I-I didn’t think you’d-”
Luke inched his face closer to Reid’s. “You’re not mad, are you?”
Reid looked at him. “No, of course not. I’m impressed, okay, I’m fucking impressed. I mean, I always imagined you going over to the dark side but this is just, like, wow.”
“I’m not my father, though.”
“No, you’re not. You’re only sticking up for yourself and those in your life.”
Luke nodded, relieved that Reid understood why he was doing this. “This is for us, Reid. For you and me. Trust me?”
Reid nodded.
“Am I scaring you?” teased Luke.
“A little,” Reid said with a smile.
“This is probably the only time I’ll do something like this so don’t worry about it, okay?”
Reid raised an eyebrow. “The only time? Do you not remember going Grimaldi on me when you blackmailed me from Dallas?”
Luke blushed. “Okay, this will be the second and last time, then.”
“Luciano,” Reid whispered, touching Luke’s face.
Luke smiled.
“Thank you, Luke,” Reid said as he kissed him. “Thank you, Luciano.”
Luke wrapped his arms around Reid’s neck and pulled him close. “Thank me tomorrow.”
“Let me thank you for the speech at least.”
“Okay.”
Reid slowly pushed them both down and settled himself in between Luke’s legs as they continued kissing. “You’ll be back in time for my speech, right?”
“I won’t miss it,” Luke said as he kissed Reid again.
Reid paused to stand and undress himself. Luke quickly did the same. Then Reid opened Luke’s legs and kneeled between them. He grinned at Luke before crouching down and taking Luke’s cock in his mouth. Reid sucked and licked while his hands rubbed Luke’s thighs. Luke stared at himself and Reid in the mirror above their bed, groaning loudly as he saw Reid’s head bob up and down on his cock.
Reid stopped and climbed up Luke’s body until they were face to face. He kissed Luke and then motioned for him to turn over.
Luke lay flat on his stomach with his head on the pillow, listening to Reid squeeze the bottle of lubricant behind him. Reid traced his slick finger lightly over Luke’s entrance and then guided his cock slowly into Luke. He softly rubbed Luke’s hips as he pushed further in. Luke began breathing harsher and faster.
Reid waited until Luke’s body relaxed and then he began to move. Luke groaned and reached behind him to touch Reid’s leg and urge him on. Reid lay flat on top of Luke with his arms on either side of him, as if doing push-ups, and thrust faster. His head fell onto Luke’s back and he kissed every inch of it that he could as he continued moving. Their rhythm increased quickly and then Reid felt himself at the peak.
“Luciano,” he yelled as he came.
“Fuck,” yelled Luke as he came right after.
Reid stayed on top of Luke until both men quieted down. He then pulled out and rolled off Luke. Reid smiled at him. “You’re so hot, Luciano, almost as hot as Luke.”
Luke, still lying on his stomach, laughed into the pillow and turned his head sideways to face Reid.
“I guess this means you’re okay with everything, then, right?”
Reid nodded. “Yeah, you go get her.”
