Note: I DO NOT hate Noah but I couldn't resist this.
Dr. Reid Oliver walked out of Memorial Hospital at approximately 5:45 a.m. and yawned as he made his way to his car, his long fingers clicking on his phone as he typed a text.
Want to meet up for breakfast this morning instead of waiting til lunch?
Though he knew Luke Snyder was asleep, Reid sent it anyway, enjoying the fact that his message would be the very first thing Luke read that day. He got into his car and was about to start it when he heard the new message alert from his phone.
Sure.
Reid stared at his phone, wondering why Luke was awake at that time. Reid had previously and frequently sent texts early in the morning-before dawn, specifically-and Luke had never once answered any of them earlier than 8 a.m. A month ago, Reid would’ve been satisfied in assuming that Luke had simply heard his phone alert and answered it. Today, Reid, being completely and madly in love with Luke, became worried as soon as the tiniest thing out of the ordinary occurred. He quickly dialed.
After five rings, Luke answered. “Luke?”
“Reid.”
“Are you at home?”
“No, um, yeah, I’m-I’m, uh, what-what are you doing up at this hour?” Luke asked, sounding either sleepy or distracted.
“Had a surgery at six this morning, remember? But it was rescheduled; the patient missed his flight and can’t get into Oakdale until tomorrow. Why are you awake at this hour? Is everything okay?”
There was no answer.
“Luke?” Silence. “Luuuke,” Reid stretched out the name.
“What? I’m here.”
“Where? Where are you?”
“I’m at, um-you’re not going to like it,” answered Luke.
“Try me.”
“Java,” said Luke in an almost whisper.
Reid’s left hand gripped the steering wheel. “Doing?”
“What?”
“Doing?’ repeated Reid more sternly.
Luke stayed quiet for a few seconds before answering loudly. “Doing? Reid, no, I’m not doing Noah. How could you think that?”
“I didn’t, but thank you for that mental image-it’s lovely,” Reid responded sardonically.
“Reid, it’s not like that. I’m, um . . .” Luke trailed off.
“You’re, um, what, Luke?” When Luke didn’t answer, Reid pressed on. “Feel free to complete the sentence.”
Luke sighed deeply on the other end. “Noah’s leaving tonight, right? Well, his co-workers and some of his friends are having a going-away party here, and they need to have everything ready when he comes by at 9. Now, as his friend, I volunteered to help, but I can’t do it later because I have the board meeting at 8, remember?”
Reid relaxed his hand and sat back in his seat. “Okay.”
“So I borrowed the key to Java to start setting up and that’s what I was doing before you called.”
Reid exhaled but stayed quiet.
“Don’t be mad,” Luke whispered.
“I’m not,” Reid said, and he meant it. He and Luke had tried to be as honest as possible with each other, and Reid was glad Luke had told him the truth; after all, he could’ve easily not answered the phone or lied about where he really was. Reid smiled as he checked himself in the rearview mirror. “Do you need help?”
“No, but thanks. See you in about an hour, then? At Al’s?”
“Yup.”
Luke unfolded a poster-sized banner that lay atop the long counter in a dimly-lit Java. As he smoothed out its edges, he heard a soft knock at the door. He quickly looked over and, even in the darkness, could see Reid peeking in through the glass. He walked over and unlocked the door, holding it ajar as he stuck his head out.
“What are you doing here?”
“Let me in and I’ll tell you.”
Luke slightly hesitated before letting Reid in and locking the door. Reid stood by the counter and looked at the banner. “Good luck, Noah,” he read and snickered. “How original.”
Luke crossed his arms and stood beside his boyfriend. “I didn’t make it.”
“I’m kidding.”
“I told you I didn’t need your help.”
“Figured if I helped you, you’d finish faster and then I’d see you sooner,” Reid’s voice softened as he touched Luke’s arm.
Luke smiled. “Awww, you couldn’t wait to see me, huh?”
“I always want to see you,” Reid said, smiling back.
Luke uncrossed his arms. “I know I should’ve told you but-”
“You did. And I should be upset that you’d wake up at the crack of dawn to prepare something special for your ex-boyfriend but I know you’d do the same for me. And you did-last Tuesday, remember?
“Breakfast in bed.”
“That was quite enjoyable.”
Luke kissed Reid and then handed him an open bag of green balloons. “Here, you can blow up these balloons.”
“I have been told I blow very well.” Luke rolled his eyes and then returned his attention to the banner. He was about to pick it up when he felt the hands at his hips.
“Reid, what are you doing?” Luke sighed without turning around.
He felt Reid’s breath warm against his ear as Reid’s hands squeezed a little. “Haven’t you ever wanted to do it at Java?”
“How do you know I haven’t?” asked Luke defensively.
“I know Mr. Mayer, and I don’t think he approved of Mr. Snyder’s dirty mind.”
Luke groaned and turned his body around to face Reid, who kept him pinned against the counter. Luke wanted to give in but instead shook his head. “Reid, we can’t.”
“Why? We have about an hour before anyone gets here.” He leaned in to kiss Luke hungrily. “And the smell of coffee is really turning me on.” His lips moved on to Luke’s chin. “And I want you to think of me every time you walk in here.” He began placing open-mouthed kisses on Luke’s neck. “And evidently, you want to do this as much as I do.” Luke gasped as Reid’s hand patted his semi-hard cock. Reid’s hand continued massaging Luke while the other unbuttoned and unzipped Luke’s black slacks. Then the two hands worked together to push Luke’s shorts and pants down to his ankles. Reid’s lips, meanwhile, found their way back to Luke’s, and both men opened their mouths wider as they tried to take in as much of each other as possible. Reid resumed touching Luke’s now very exposed and very erect cock, while Luke unzipped Reid’s jeans and shoved his hand down his shorts.
“Wait, Luke, wait,” Reid whispered in between kisses before removing their nimble hands from each other’s groins. “Hold on.” Reid stepped back, grasped Luke’s waist and hoisted him onto the counter.
Reid fully removed Luke’s shorts and pants and then grabbed Luke’s thighs and spread them, slowly caressing them as his hands moved higher up. He placed small kisses on the right thigh as his head-and mouth-moved closer to Luke’s cock. Luke, his breath emanating through his pink, puffy lips, used his left hand to hold himself steady on the counter while his right hand instinctively buried itself in Reid’s curly hair.
“Fuck, Reid, fuck,” uttered Luke as Reid wrapped his mouth around Luke. Luke wasn’t too big, so Reid was always able to take Luke completely inside his mouth. Gently, with just the right amount of pressure, Reid tugged on Luke’s balls. At that, Luke let go of Reid’s hair and used both hands to hold onto the counter as he opened his legs wider, resting his feet softly on Reid’s back. Reid sucked faster and stroked harder, and Luke groaned louder. “Reid, Reid, Reid, Reid,” chanted Luke as he thrust deeper into Reid’s mouth. Reid pushed his free hand into his own pants to pull at his throbbing cock. The sound of Luke’s hoarse voice saying his name aroused Reid like nothing else. “I’m close, Reid, damn, Reid,” Luke spit out, and that was enough for Reid to release Luke’s cock and get up from his crouching position.
Luke was about to protest, but his words were swallowed by Reid’s mouth, which practically devoured Luke’s. Their lips parted, and Reid thrust Luke’s hand onto his cock. “Touch me, Luke, please, touch me,” he panted as his sweaty forehead rested against Luke’s own with their mouths only inches apart as they breathed each other in and out. Luke stroked Reid, and Reid did the same to Luke.
They both heard him before they saw him. Noah stood two feet away from the counter with his hands on his hips. He cleared his throat very loudly, and both Luke and Reid rapidly moved away from the counter and each other in an effort to put their pants back on. Luke, his face very red and very flushed, pulled on his pants and then faced Noah.
“What, what are you doing here? You-you’re not supposed to be-you weren’t supposed to see any of this,” Luke’s words rushed out as he buttoned his slacks.
“You know, that would’ve been a good excuse four months ago when I was still blind,” Noah spat out. Reid stifled a laugh as he zipped up his jeans. Noah glared at him before continuing: “You didn’t answer your phone, so I called your house to see if you wanted to join me for breakfast on my last morning in Oakdale, and Faith told me where you were.”
“Noah, I’m sorry. We shouldn’t have done this. I’m so, so sorry,” Luke said before looking over at Reid, who stood beside him. Noah stared at him, too.
Reid glanced at the two of them. “I’m not.”
“Reid!” scolded Luke.
“What? I was having a great time until this slight interruption here,” he said, waving his finger in Noah’s direction.
Noah snorted and looked away.
“Noah-” Luke started softly.
Reid rolled his eyes as he started walking to the door. “I’m going to go wait outside while you two talk about your feelings and naturally blame each other for what just happened here.” He paused to glance back at Luke and then walked out.
Noah crossed his arms. “Seriously, Luke?”
Luke shrugged and looked down at the floor.
Noah slowly shook his head. “This isn’t like you.”
Luke looked back up at Noah with narrowed eyes. “Actually, this is like me. How many times did I beg you to do it with me here?”
“It’s unsanitary.” Noah pointed at the counter and sighed. “Now I’m going to have to wipe the whole counter.”
“Why?”
“It’s what I do best.”
Luke shook his head. “But I didn’t think you were working anymore. I thought you were just coming for the party.”
“What party?”
Luke pursed his lips and slowly walked around the counter to pick up the banner that had fallen to the floor during his and Reid’s activity. He held it up as best as he could so Noah could read it. “Surprise.”
Noah stared at Luke for a few seconds before turning around and walking out.
Reid sat on the bench right outside Java when Noah came out. Noah paused when he saw Reid but said nothing. Reid lightly waved at Noah. “Uh, good luck, Noah.” Noah frowned and walked off.
“How original,” Luke’s voice filled the air.
Reid exhaled and turned his head to see Luke walk toward him. “What else was I supposed to say? I didn’t want to get punched again.”
Luke laughed softly and sat down next to Reid on the bench. He stared straight ahead.
“Everything okay?” asked Reid as he looked closely at Luke, who still wouldn’t look at him.
“What time is it?”
“Half-hour to 7.” He leaned closer to Luke. “Want to get breakfast now?”
Luke shook his head. “Not yet.”
Reid pulled away from Luke’s personal space and sighed. He put a hand over his eyes. “You’re going after him.”
“What? No,” Luke stated adamantly. “I was actually thinking we could continue where we were earlier. After all, we weren’t finished before the slight interruption.”
Reid uncovered his eyes and raised his eyebrows at Luke. “Really?”
Luke smiled the devious grin that Reid wished he would do more often. “I still got the key and we have 30 minutes before Java opens.”
Reid kept staring at his boyfriend, so Luke stood up and extended his hand to Reid. “Shall we?”
“Only if you buy me a coffee after we’re done,” Reid requested as he stood and took Luke’s hand.
“Gotta earn it,” Luke smirked as he pulled Reid toward Java.
