Today we spent the entire day exploring downtown Portland. We missed the bus near our hotel so we ended up walking the 1.5 miles to the light rail station.
Walking is about 10 times easier here then back home in Missouri. This is due to the fact that there is nary a hill here. We walked almost 6 miles on streets all in all today. Besides sore feet it felt great to do all that walking.
After riding the light rail downtown our first stop was the Chinese Gardens. We opted against waiting for a guided tour and used a guidebook to guide ourselves. It started raining lightly, but not enough to becoming annoying. After going through all the gardens exhibit we stopped at the tea house for lunch. By the time we were done the rain had picked up and we started to regret not having an umbrella. We quickly rushed down the street to the Museum of Contemporary Craft. The lower level was devoted to local artists who had come in and set up a studio for their crafts.
After leaving their we walked under the awnings to keep dry until we reached Buffalo Exchange thrift store. Sifting through all the clothes I managed to find a new jacket and so did Emily.
Across the street we went to Powells books for the second time on this trip. Today we explored the kids section finding books for all my nieces and nephews. We then ate dinner at Deschutes Microbrewery and Public house. Excellent IPA and pretzels. By then the rain had stopped and we were able to easily stroll back to the light rail station.
Pictures coming soon.
