Last week I was having a bath. A long hot bubble bath. A bath that required a good book. And then I dropped the book. In the hot bubble bath. It was a library book.
I've never ruined a library book before. And I'm an avid library user. Today was the day I had to go in and pay for a book. A ruined book. A book I will never read again, but can't do anything else with it since its water damaged.
It wasn't a good day.
Paying for a book I ruined also ruined my book budget. It doesn't sound like a lot, but the $22 to cover the cost of the book, including a $3 processing fee, means that I probably won't get to spend any money on books this month. I love our house, it just makes things rather tight money wise. Now I'm not sure if I'll get to go to the two author events in town this month, Guy Gavriel Kay is doing a talk and book signing on a Wednesday night, and this Saturday night Kelley Armstrong is doing a talk and book signing at the museum down town. I want to go to both. Reality is, I probably won't be going to either.
