Really?!
I am in charge of our school outreach programming as a part of my job. Today, myself and several members of our upper level management had a meeting with members of the Birmingham City Schools. It was a great opportunity to get an in with their superintendent, director of special ed and director of physical education...everyone who can help us connect with kids with disabilities and PE teachers who have no clue what to do with them in PE. Awesome.
We pretty much kicked ass and got one of the biggest school districts in the state to let us run educational in-service programs for their teachers. 400 people in PE and Special Ed alone! Awesome.
I get back to my desk later that day and find an email from one of the upper management types who was in the meeting. She 'hadnt been in many meetings with me before, but wanted to let me know that I presented myself well'. Umm really, thanks, I think? WTF? What were you expecting? Is it because I am young or because I am am a programmer who doesnt wear a suit to work everyday? Believe it or not, I know how to walk into a quite important meeting and not fuck it up.
And my wine fueled graduate admissions essay must have been decent enough. Got in!
