(no subject)
Wow I suck at this whole updating thing.
So here it is...
Aside from the lack of a paycheck, the experience has been great. We have been running some truly awesome programs, and its just neat to step back and realize that we are one of the few facilities in the entire country whose only purpose is to provide sport and recreation programs to people with disabilities. I mean really, how cool is that. I have seen Paralympic Rugby come through the building and Olympic gymnastics (holy cow, tiny little athletic machines, those children are). I have gotten funny sunburns while kayaking, and gotten in some pretty decent shape since I have free access to workout in the entire facility. I have taken up swimming, believe it or not. Life is good.
Now life in the southern conservative bible belt... interesting to say the least. I was trying to find the library one day and I got lost and found a 4 story parking garage, for a church! In a town where everyone goes to church and has a George W Bush bumper sticker, I am still trying to figure out how exactly to answer questions of religion and politics. As of now, I just smile and nod...and try to avoid the crazy ladies in parking lots that ask me if I have found Jesus, when I only asked them for directions to a grocery store.
