Ok,
I haven't updated in a long time. I've been busy. Sue me. But I did feel, in light of last night's distasterous turnout for the GOP, I should say something.
I am a Republican. A proud Republican. Sure, sometimes I disagree with my party. Sometimes I have no idea what in the world the GOP is doing. But I still believe in the core values of the Grand Old Party: limited government, strong national defense, smaller taxes and traditional family values. And I will keep on believe in the Republicans, even if it looks like they're falling apart. Because we're not.
We're held together by stronger principles than "we hate the President", "We hate the war in iraq" or even "we hate the facist leaders in congress". We believe that an unborn child's life is just as important as the mother's, we believe that the strength of america lies in the strength of families and personal faith, we believe in the spirit of free enterprise where capitalism is the best way to keep our economy running strong, we believe that america's military is the strongest in the world, and that our brave men and women who serve our nation deserve the respect and admiration a grateful nation can only bestow, we believe that the government's first responsibility is the safety and security of its citizens (not the doling out of social programs), we believe in limited taxation, financial efficiency and the adoption of innovations to allow taxpayers to get the most for their hard-earned tax dollars, and most of all we STILL believe that America is the "Shining City of the Hill" and represents the dreams and aspirations of current and future generations of American citizens.
I'm not going to badmouth the Democrats. I'm just not. It's a waste of time. I'm not going to cry "RECOUNT" or claim that they stole the election. They didn't. They won. We lost.
We move foward.
I'm not going to lie. I'm sad by the loss of my party. I'm sad that Mike DeWine isn't my senator anymore and I'm even sadder that Sherrod Brown is. I'm saddest that the great conservative leader Rick Santorum has been ousted by a much lesser man. I'm sad because these men still had a lot of years left in them to do good things for Ohioans, Pennsylvanians and Americans as a whole. But, c'est la vie. That's politics. WE MOVE ON.
So I'll congratulate the Dems. Good job (and I say that without malice or sarcasm). Really. You got out the vote. We didn't. But I must warn you. The Democrats made a lot of promises. They promised change. So now, you have two years to make those changes. And you'd better believe that the GOP isn't going to "go gently into that good night". We're still here. Our principles haven't changes. If anything, this loss is going to rejuvenate us. We're coming back in '08, stronger and better. So good luck in the next two years. I hope that the GOP does work with you because I DO love this country and want the best for it. That said, I don't particularly want the GOP to get behind tax increases or amnesty for illegal aliens! But seriously, good luck to you. Because, come 2008, Red State America WILL BE BACK!
