As most of you know, I recently purchased a Canon SLR camera that I had been lusting over since Hong Kong. The Camera is an 8 megapixal digital SLR Rebel with a standard 18-55mm reflex lens. I originally wanted the 20D, but since the camera body alone was more expensive than my original rig, I decided on the Rebel, which was the one that I first started looking at anyways. The outfit cost me a smidge over $1500.
Now that's more money that I paid for Katrina's car and quite a few other things, but I had gotten to the point that I had outgrown my point and shoot and was ready for the next step. I have never found a hobby as rewarding or natural to me as photography and I felt that this investment was justified.
As it turns out, I had even underestimated myself. Never have I been more please to throw down two G notes for a single item. I have been in love with my camera from day one and my passion has yet to wane. I have gained a great deal of experience shooting wildlife, scenery, community and lately; I have done several sittings for family portraits to gain experience.
A few months ago I felt in control of my art and somewhat knowledgeable about this medium. I have doubled my knowledge in the last six months and now fell like I barely know anything and have so much more to learn. Well, the more you learn, the less you know.
Anyways, I had maxed out the abilities of my 18-55 lens and was craving a telephoto one almost from day one. Today, my dreams were realized with the purchase of my new Quantaray 70-300 telephoto lens with 180-300 Macro capabilities.
Oh, sweet agony!!! Even desire sated is a sweet fruit!!! Every exquisite detail is sweet Manna from the heavens...
While I'll admit that the Quanta isn't the best lens on the market, it is a serviceable, high quality alternative to spending $1100 on a Sigma with Auto Stab. For a mere $281, I was able to outfit my rig with the new lens, hood, UV filter and even pick up a new Quanta camera bag more suitable for my gear.
Happy, happy, joy, joy!!!
Now I have to save my pennies for a wide angle. The list and expense is never- ending. Maybe I should have had kids instead. College only costs $36K!
